Captain Mitchell looked out over the assembly area, the newest test designs he submitted were taking shape and soon a new breed of bipedal war machine would be born.
Superior to the current generation of walkers, heavier weapons, higher adaptibility, higher durability, faster, and with applications other than just military use...

His train of thought was interrupted by the entrance of one of the staff of the facility, "You are impressed yes?"
Mitchell nodded, "Yes I am, most impressive. The weapons, armor, internal systems, all of it is high spec and works perfectly in simulation."
The staff member bowed and left the room.

He turned his gaze back to the window and stared at the titans in the making...

The prototypes were almost halfway completed, skeletal structures were finished, internal systems were being finalized.
The new war machine was beginning to take form...

Captain Mitchell was going through the Imperial database looking for suitable test pilots to assign to the new walkers, only the best would be acceptable. Mitchell found four so far, but needed four more for the listing to be complete.
That's not including the support vehicle crews...

Leaning from his chair he signalled the senior worker on the construction team, "This is Mitchell, what's the progress down there?"

His reply for the Captain, "About three to four more days, five tops. These new machines are playing hell with construction...we've never built anything like them before. The legs and arms have given the most trouble, the joints and manipulators are still unfinished. We'll keep you updated with our progress Captain."

"Good, any luck with the melee weapons?"

"The energy blades aren't coming along at all, too complex. We may be able to actually get them to work in the future but not for some time. Our engineers are having a hard enough time getting the Suits themselves to function properly."

Mitchell sighed internally, "Very well forget the energy blades for now, focus on getting the Suits online, then the weapons. We'll worry about melee weapons later."

"Right away Captain" The comlink clicked off.

Mitchell went back to scanning the pilot listings for test pilots.

Mitchell had selected a few names from the very lengthy list of pilot names. A few exceptional pilots...though one problem was that a few of them had a tendency to be the "lone wolf" type. He'd have to work around that, his first responsiblity as squadron commander.

Just then the comm chimed and the familiar staff member's voice spoke, "Captain, the units are complete, we are now running final system checks on them. Expect to be able to use them in mere hours."

"A thin smile touched the Captain's lips, "Excellent job, I'll notify Imperial Command of your stellar performance."

"Thank you Captain, I will alert you when the units are ready for the testing range." The comm clicked off.

He sat down from his near constant pacing and clicked the comm to the appropriate person, "This is Captain Joseph Mitchell, Stormtrooper Walker Squadron Commander. Under the authority of Colonel General Scyntor I am requesting several personel to be transferred here to Carida for a special test. I am sending the list and expect to see the pilots here first thing. Mitchell out."

He got out of the chair and headed to the factory area, he wanted to inspect his creations and oversee the final phases.

Days after the new units were complete and the select pilots he had transferred had gotten accustomed to their new war machines he called them for a briefing.
The new units were divided into three seperate squads each with three of the new walkers, all serving a different purpose in battle.

The first squadron was the general purpose unit, with three of the new walkers geared for flexibility and durability in combat.
Second was the sniper unit, three specially built sniper mechs with long range precision weaponry to support the other two groups.
And finally, the heavy weapons group. Three units designed to rain down extremely heavy fire from such a small chassis.

To support these new walkers in the field would later be a sort of mobile command vehicle. Mitchell thought about getting one in now but decided not to. Right now it was more important to get these Mobile Suits into their final testing.

He looked at the roster again for his new MS squadrons.

Squadron 1 (General Purpose):
RX-79(G) Ez8: Joseph Mitchell
RX-79(G): Karen Joshua
RX-79(G): Terry Sanders Jr.

Squadron 2 (Sniper):
RGM-79 SP: Cameron Mitchell
RGM-79 SP: Christina MacKenzie
RGM-79 SP: Vince Donahue

Squadron 3 (Heavy Weapons):
RGC-83: Norris Packard
RGC-83: John Ridden
RGC-83: Bernard Monsha

He took note that his brother had been among the select elite of the Stormtrooper walker pilots to make it inot this program. He wouldn't get any special treatment for being family however.
Standing up, he tapped the comms to the barracks, "All Mobile Suit pilots, report to the assembly area. Double time it."
When each of the pilots had arrived he told them of what was to happen.

"Today, you are each going to be tested, you will participate in a wargame that will have each of your squads against an equivalent Imperial walker squadron. Survival of the fittest, don't let me down."

He took a moment to observe each pilot's face to gauge their reactions. They varied from Karen's rock-hard gaze to Monsha's arrogant stare. Not only would getting this squad to utilize their new Mobile Suits be challenging, but getting the pilots to work together be a hassle.

He continued,
"I was given the authority to hand pick a few pilots out of the Stormtrooper Corps, you are the very best the Corps has to offer and I have faith that you will perfom above and beyond my expectations."
"However, don't expect an easy battle. There are several people in the Empire that would prefer to keep the normal walkers rather than these new machines and I believe they might throw a curve ball in the tests to try and sabotage us."

Out of the corner of his eye he spotted a smirk appear on Joshua's face. After reading her file he noticed she was a very aggressive pilot. She had no fear of her enemy, and a commanding presense in the field. Apparently from her facial expression she wanted to face a challenge.

"All right, enough of a pep talk check your gear and mount up. Testing begins shortly."
Every one of them snapped to attention, saluted and shouted "Sir!" before leaving the room to get their Suits ready.

Ready for testing Ams.

Due to several delays and the recent completion of a new weapon system on the Mobile Suits, the tests were pushed back. If all went to plan they would commence very soon.
Though during the endless wait the pilots of the newly formed Imperial Chimera Corps were cracking away in the simulators practicing for their debut in the Empire's finest and most advanced mechs, the Mobile Suits.

Mitchell had just got done going through his seventeenth sim run for the day, he was tired...when the facility wide comm chimed.
"Captain Mitchell, you have a message from Imperial Command."

He looked up and wiped the sweat from his brow. "I'm on my way." he replied. As he reached his office he saw the message and a new set of rank bars on the table. The message also had promotions for several of Chimera's pilots.

Karen chose that moment to walk in with her report of Chimera's operational effectiveness. Mitchell looked up ate her and smiled while he tossed her new rank pins to her. "Congratulations Lt. Colonel, most of the pilots got these but it seems you're my second in command now."

With her normal rock hard gaze she saluted, "Thank you sir" She offered the data pad over to me, "The effectiveness report of Chimera sir."

Mitchell mentally kicked himself, Karen never changed. After reading her file he could understand why...her husband was killed in a crossfire during the Civil War, since then she poured her life into the military.
Looking at the report Mitchell felt satisfied, the pilots were adapting pretty well to the new Suits...all except for Monsha. He was still having a bit of trouble with the manipulator controls and sensors.

"Lt. Colonel, get the pilots back in their sim units, we have a few more runs to do before the day is out." He got up and picked up his pilot helmet.
Joshua nodded, "Yes sir".

A few minutes later the pilots of the Chimera Corps were back at it in their simulators. At least, until the real tests began that is.

Monitoring the progress of the Sniper test, Joseph was impressed. Cameron was doing rather well for his first combat run in the Mobile Suits. He had quickly adapted to the machine and had already claimed a few opposing walkers with his 120mm Rail Sniper.

The RX-79 pilots, Karen Joshua and Terry Sanders were getting prepped for their run. Mitchell however was ready now, all that time in the sims, all those years of waiting to get some payback for his lost comrades...the Mobile Suit was the key to it all.

He looked up at his machine, the Ez8. The toughest of the RX-79 series, it's ruby eyes glowed in the light.

"Soon, soon we'll show them what the Mobile Suits can really do..."

"Dammit all to hell!" Mitchell slammed his fist into the bulkhead to his left. "What's going on out there? Live ammo of all things..." He had been monitoring the tests and until now had been fairly standard until Cameron started firing live 120mm AP slugs at Nebulax's forces.

This had to stop, everyone on this world was either an officer or a citizen of the Empire, we were at war with the Rebels...the last thing we needed was to start killing each other. He activated the comm to the barracks, "Joshua, Sanders, get your asses into your suits. We're heading out, double time it. Packard, Ridden, Monsha, get you units ready and await my order to launch. "

He got his pilot suit on and ran out the door to his unit, the Ez8. Looking over at both of his teammates he climbed into his suit and began the pre-launch checklist. As he powered up the systems the eyes on the unit flashes a hellish red.

"Everyone take a 100mm, Joshua take a Beam Rifle, Sanders take a Launcher. Live ammo for this, just in case." He said as he used the controls to get the Suit to grab two 100mm guns.
Before they left they each grabbed a plate armor shield and secured it to the Mobile Suit's left arm, while Mitchell used the shield's hand grip.

Before they headed out he nodded over to Norris' team in the GM Cannons, "Hold here until I send the signal. When you receive you know where to go."

Norris replied, "Understood Colonel."

Using the comm for his team, "Alright, the sniper team is in a bit of a tight spot and we're going to relieve the pressure, We head in at full stride with weapons sweeping at maximum output." Karen and Sanders both acknowledged the order and started to run in their RX-79 units.
Hitting the pedals the Ez8 blasted off into it's top speed towards the action.

***

Norris and his team started loading up ammo and weapons into a storage container just in case they were called in for support. Among the weapons was an ominous looking launcher for the RX-79(G). When fully loaded his men grabbed 90mm guns for their Mobile Suits and waited for the go ahead order...

Things were slow in the mech yard on Carida, not because of the fact that the Chimera Corps was still stuck planetside, but because of the fact that the war was over. The sole reason these Mobile Suits were even designed and manufactured was to field them against the Rebels.

Now that there was peace again, what purpose did these mechanical titans serve?

Colonel Mitchell was out in his Ez8 field testing one of their new MS rifles, the Type .37 model, brand new and very powerful. As his Mobile Suit plowed through the jungle, he actively scanned around for targets to shoot at. His scanner gave out a shrill warning and he brought the Type .37 gun around to bear mashing the firing stud as he went. A hail of durasteel slugs spewed from the barrel at thousands of feet per second, literally shredding the dummy tank he fired at. Two more targets appeared and both suffered similar fates.

Another warning alarm indicating an enemy lock-on, Mitchell took the simulated tank round with the Ez8's arm mounted shield and rammed the dual prongs on the edge of the shield into the tank itself.

A familiar voice crackled over the comm, "All targets eliminated, no sim damage sustained to Mobile Suit. Good job sir." Karen said. Mitchell smiled, "Thanks, I'm returning to base now." The Ez8 did an about face and began the long march back to it's bay.
