Also, I just want to stress again that we will be taking a very, very dim view of blatant crossovers. So no battlestars... no Trek gear... no Halo... we'll try to be lenient, but the lines have been drawn and we will refuse to cross anything that goes too far.

EDIT: Uh, realizing how that came off... that's not really directed at any of you in particular. :p

Mostly I was picturing some redesigning stuff I'd have to do (since, y'know... ISDs are ancient by now) and admittedly, the idea of Remnant Battlestars was kinda neat. >_>

So learn from my mistakes! Don't do the crossovers! :p

When you say no blatant crossovers, how far does that go? Cause while I wouldn't go as far to copy a ship exactly from something else, I might use the picture, and if I was feeling unoriginal, the class name. How much of that would be disallowed?

And what do you mean ISDs will be way old? I thought it only started a few years after the GCW?

...Forty-one years after Yavin...:p

And frankly, class names is where I might draw the line. In some cases, even a design... such as, say, a battlestar or a Star Trek vessel. Now, if you use the rough shape (for instance, if VIII had continued, I was considering deploying an upgrade of the Dreadnaught which had flanking hangar pods... and obviously, on that ship, it would have a strong resemblance to a Battlestar) we could be more lenient.

But honestly, I'd prefer we stick to canon or stuff that can be easily traced to SW canon vessels, rather than Goa'uld motherships with turbolasers instead of staff cannons. :p

Alright. So if I used the picture of the Pillar of Autumn, or SSV Normandy, or Serenity, and called it something else, it'd be cool? Even if it had a similar purpose (IE Cruiser, Frigate, ect)?

Ehhh... depends on how close it aligns with existing SW architecture. If it's something that fits in, we may allow the likeness to be used.

EDIT: And no. Don't use the same name.

Alright, I think I got it. So things like a MAC gun probably wouldn't get carried over, but things like turrets can be turned into turbolasers.

Mass Accelerator Cannon... it's like a very large rail gun that the Halo (UNSC) ships are usually built around. They're meant to overload shields, and if a target is unshielded, eradicate it.

Also, can managing faction assets be... simpler? I mean, maintenance is cool, but paying for the training of crew, cost for crew, food & rations, etc is a little much.
Actually, I've got an idea:
CMAC gives you a population number, and then says X percent of your personnel are in the military. This would differ from population to population. Madalorians would have a much higher military percentage then, say, the Naboobians. Also, depending on culture, the percent of the pop would be divided into different branches of the military. Those %s would be what you had to work with. All ships would require the minimum crew number. That would make technically advanced, low staffed ships more vital, and worth the extra cost. This would also make conquest of new worlds even more wanted, as a higher population would raise your military cap.
If a nation reached their military cap, they'd have several options. They could spend money on recruitment, raising the military %, or do something like hire outsiders. Each would have their drawbacks, though.
While this sounds mildly complicated, it actually raises the amount of RPing and eliminates much of the number game, while being far more realistic.
Tell me what you think.

...Well, you're welcome to build a ship around a mass-driver cannon if you wish...

Though, as I said in the Suggestions thread a while back... you need a 2.8 billion ton mass going at a hundred kilometers per second to get through the shields of an Acclamator... let alone ships three generations later with a quarter century of war spurring development in between. So... :p

As for the assets... right now, it's much more relaxed and simpler. :)

I could just design a light-weight slug that, after being fired, turns on a massive artificial gravity core that changes the weight dramatically, then, when it hits the object, overload, either causing a random magnetic wave that would heavily damage the ship within, or create a black hole, or better, a white hole... but that's just me.

But would that idea possibly work?

Aside from its vicious rape of physics, even distorted as they are in Star Wars? :p

No.

I meant my asset/military cap deal. And is it just me, or is there a ridiculous amount of lag going on?

Indeed. We're not a nationsim.

Anyway, as far as the military-economic complex you were constructing...

We don't really want a massive planet-grab like we had in VII and VIII...

Mmm... it is more realistic, actually. But frankly, combat, assets, and that stuff are tertiary concerns this time around. VII was essentially a story built around an economic system I devised when I was fourteen to prevent godmodding. :p

This upcoming game is a story, maybe with some necessary evils of management tucked into it so it still looks nice.

And those of you/us who want assets and all that jazz can always have mini RPGs in the mini RPG fora, which would be MUCH easier than making your own invision board and then being sad when no one registers :P

You can probably still put together units and stuff if you really want to. In fact, I plan on it.

'Ey Kilvec, remember what I said earlier about MDs? Molten projectiles, that way you have the heat and the inertia hitting the sheilds. Because we don't have any red matter.

But you know one thing, in SW they're always advancing technology. THAT BOTHERS ME. Like, it's Star Wars! After a certain point there shouldn't be any technology left to advance! It's like isomers, you can only get so many different combinations and most of them are useless.

Haha, so true. Maybe at 200 ABY a fighter could fly right through a planet because it's sheilds are so strong. :P

But I'm fine with no assets, I just thought that if we were gunna do it, I'd like something different. :)

Well, actually... you have that. Technology barely changed in nearly four thousand years. The only difference between a KotOR blaster rifle and a Stormtrooper's E-11 is the size and power/mass ratio. And even then, the differences aren't colossal.

I thought there were Mandalorian ships that were about 1.3km? I imagine the Republic could have made ships of ESD size, but didn't have the money and knew it would be futile. There's also Karath's ship which was 3km plus.

Hmm. The Inexpugnable are 3.1 km in diameter, but it seems the design is devoted to command and control and fighter space rather than armament. Meanwhile, the 1.2 km-long Centurion-class has a much heavier armament, and also a more efficient design.
