"Yes, I've spoken to the Chief of State. She says she wishes for your return, however, I still leave the choice in your hands," I responded. "As for Imperial captivity, things change. It just takes someone willing to change them."
However, I deigned not to tell him that his name would actually be highest on the release priority, if not for his potential value as a prisoner.

Leia wished for his return. Those were the only words he needed to hear in order to make up his mind. Sure, he still felt that warning pang at the back of his mind like he was making a mistake, but as long as he was able to see Leia and the kids again, he didn't care.

Alright, enough talk 'bout changes and how glorious the Empire's become," Han warned, holding up a hand to stop the Moff from babbling on anymore. "No matter how tempting your offer is, I'm gonna have to pass. I just want a one-way ticket back to Denon, got it?"

I leaned back in the chair, this time on my guard, unlike over a year ago and cast an analyzing gaze over Solo. His insistence on being returned to the Alliance was only surpassed by that of his wife, yet he also seemed hesistant. His charges against the Alliance on the Holonet were most concerning, as well. And now he was turning back on challenges, and slinking back.
"I'm sure it'll be easier to reunite you with the Chief of State in person, tomorrow. Inquisitor, have him ready and aboard the Prestige at 0800."
She inclined her head, and I turned back to the Rebel. "Your wife will be on Corellia tomorrow, as will we. We'll return you to her then."
The man sneered. "Corellia?! I bet that was your bright idea, huh? You know, I'd rather take my own chances than have you step foot on my home turf again."
I smirked thinly. "Your chances state that you will be stuck with us for a very, very long time now. Think of your wife, or your children. You have the rest of the day to consider it. If you're certain by tomorrow you don't want to go to Corellia, inform the Inquisitor here."
With that, he began to be led away. I followed him to the doorframe. "Oh, and Commander..."
He turned, his sneer still evident.
"I owe you this from a while ago," I said calmly, then out of the blue, my fist connected squarely with his nose. He was knocked back into the hall, dazed and angry. "Now we're even," I explained, tapping the door control. It hissed shut behind me as I walked back to my desk.
When I sat back down, I saw Shayera gawking at me.
"What?" I asked innocently.
She just shook her head. "Testosterone a little thick in here?"
I shrugged. "Maybe, but I'll tell you this much: it felt good."
"Heh... I know the feeling," she smirked. "Anyway, back to these reports on these infiltrators..."

Sorry Han... but I've been waiting a year for this chance. :p

Dawn. By the time the DT-IVs had made it to the Palace, the sun was already rising, casting everything in a dull orange hue. It did wonders to obscure the strike team now atop the palace above one of the Emperor's private rooms. The team had already disabled the security within the room and the hallway beyond, so there was no chance of someone detecting them, unless they were loud.

Fusion cutter in hand, he cut away the last bit of transparisteel of the skylight and pulled on the suction handle he had placed on the slab. Coming free of it's surroundings, the transparisteel had to be at least twenty kilograms or more. Setting it aside, he pulled several handle-looking objects from one of the crash-bags he had brought, and began tac-welding them to the areas around the skylight.

Once finished, he nodded to Scyntor, Captain and the others, before pulling a section of rope from his bag, attaching it to the handle he had welded into place, and dropping the end down the hole to the floor below. Grabbing onto the rope, Lieutenant pulled his pistol from the magnetic clamp holding it to his leg and slid down into the darkness below, nightvision activated. They had already scanned the room before cutting away the skylight. It showed no life-signs, but that didn't mean there weren't droids in there. Looking around, he confirmed that the room was indeed void of any hostiles.

As he touched the ground, Lieutenant cocked his head to the side, wondering when he began thinking of other Imperials as hostiles. Certainly, for all intents and purposes, on this mission, they were hostiles. But still... He didn't like thinking of them as such.

Looking down at the floor, he cringed. Even with his 'soft' landing, he had cracked the tiles of the floor with his weight. It seemed that he had made the correct decision about just jumping down to the floor. They would've destroyed the floor, and possibly alerted nearby guards. They didn't need this mission to fail before it even got under way.

Putting his pistol back on the magnetic clamp, he blinked twice at the upper left section of his HUD, and his acknowledgment light winked on across the tactical HUD, signaling Captain and the others that it was safe. Shouldering his G-10, he moved out of the way of the others, and towards the door. He would cover the door until everyone was down, and then they would truly breach the palace. Taking a deep breath, he knew that they were already at the point of no return.

As the Lieutenant checked the room for hostiles, 307 and his team checked their gear. Blue Team was one of the first teams to enter this section of the palace, and he wanted them to be ready. Each member of his squad had been outfitted with a G-10, two SE-10s, all with stun rounds, enough stun grenades to take out three infantry squads, and wire charges for pesky blast doors. They had also equipped themselves with DEMP blasters and ion grenades in the event that they ran into battle droids inside the palace itself. 307 had heard nasty stories about what T-300s and their successing models could do to infantry, and he had no desire to personally test their effectiveness in combat.

He saw Lieutenant's acknowledgement light flash in his HUD, and he made a quick hand motion to Blue Team. They attached their own ziplines to the edge of the roof and slid down into the darkness. Once they had reached the floor, they shouldered their weapons and spread out like a hand, milliseconds apart, dispersing throughout the room, searching to be absolutely sure that Lieutenant hadn't missed anything. When all of Blue Team had acknowledged that the room was clear, 307 opened a single-beam COM channel to General Scyntor. "Main room secure, General. Blue Team proceeding to objective." Together with his teammates, he moved forward to stand by Lieutenant to cover the door while Blue Three moved to the keypad next to the door. "Doesn't look too hard, sir. Should only take a moment."

307 clipped his rifle to the magnetic plate on his back and drew both of his SE-10s. In these tight quarters, the repeater's high rate of fire combined with modified silencers made them appealing in this kind of operation. The keypad blinked twice, and Blue Three attached her own rifle to her back plate before setting a spoofer-counterelectronics device over the pad. She entered a few commands and nodded. "Security holocams in the area are running through a diagnostic mode, sir. Should take about fifteen minutes for anyone to get them back online." More than enough time for them to get to a security checkpoint.

Standing atop the dome of the Imperial Palace and looking over the horizon as the orbiting mirrors simulated sunrise, Scyntor couldn't help but feel a pang of regret. This would possibly be the final time he ever beheld a sunset, the last time he would view the beauty of nature, even simulated as it was upon the ecumenopolis. He heard the Lieutenant hit the floor and looked down a moment, then nodded to the Captain before taking up a second tether line.

Clad in Storm Commando armor, he was an anomaly among the rest of the Corps. Even so, his physical size more than lent him the uniformity needed as the 145th member of the squad. Gripping the line firmly in his gauntlet and slinging the end behind his waist, he jumped into the yawning abyss. Letting the tether slip through his grip as he descended, the faint hiss of the line against the plastoid armor lost in the acoustical tile that lined the audience chamber.

His boots hit moments later, matching Lieutenant's impact points. Stepping away from the line he activated the command commlink, his voice soft but full of his authority. "You're up, Captain. Sleeper reports ready, 307 is in operation. Brent-013, status report." Clicking the comm off he retrieved the G-10 blaster rifle from the maglocks of the armor, priming the gun. The faint whine of the electrics warming was a comforting sound to his ears.

The photoreceptors of the helmet adjusted for the dark, overlaying thermal imaging with electromagnetic harmonics, letting him watch the ebb and flow of the power couplings and conduits above his head. Before him, about a half-kilometer away, was his objective. Estimated time of objective achievement: two hours. The internal chronometer read 0530, and Scyntor hoped the sleepless night previous would not impact his performance.

The keypad flashed again, and Blue Three's acknowledgement light winked in 307's HUD. He opened a single-beam COM frequency to Blue Team and whispered, "Hand signals from now on. Proceed to security station one and await further orders." He closed the channel and locked it so that he wouldn't accidentally open it. SE-10s raised and primed, 307 shouldered open the door and crept out of the room. Blue Team fanned out behind him with their G-10s armed and ready to fire at the slightest hint of action. They stealthily made their way down the hall without making so much as a whisper, despite being encased in half a ton of armor, and reached the next door without any contacts on their motion sensors.

Must be in the middle of a shift change, 307 thought to himself as he opened the door to checkpoint one. The office was empty. Blue Two and Four took up flanking positions on the inside of the door while 307 and Blue Three moved over to the terminals. With a nearly inaudible whine they came online, and the pair set to work, rearranging patrol routes to give the rest of the Dark troopers a clear path to their objectives...and to give the General and his escort a straight shot at Jendob's office.

"This is Sleeper. The floor is clear for the run.”

“Sir, red 1 reporting in. We're 1000 meters from the entrance point and closing. Requesting loops and security overrides in T minus 2.”

The two comms clicked off, leaving silence once more to resonate within the Colonel-General’s consciousness. It was proceeding exactly as it should, the palace security frequencies showed no strain of stress of even knowledge of the situation. Behind him, he heard Captain’s boots thud against the floor, and the soft whisper of the cord retracting back to the suit. Scyntor’s voice cut through the quiet, a soft sound that was absorbed in the acoustic tile. ”Lieutenant, you’re on point. Move in sweep pattern zeta, maximal safety.”

The Phase IV nodded, then departed the audience chamber with a whisper of magnapod boots, leaving the Captain and Scyntor alone. Switching off the communications channels, the Colonel-General turned to the squad leader, looking him in the visor. ”I know you are under no obligation to follow me, and that my rant aboard the Pillar must make me seem like a traitor myself. I can do nothing to sway neither your opinion nor your loyalty, nor do I expect to. Your independence is commendable, and I have counted on it since I first learned of your troopers. However, in this instance I must ask that you trust me, if for no other reason than to learn the truth in your own way.”

A moment of silence passed, and then the signal from the Lieutenant told them to get moving. Walking through the halls and setting up checkpoints behind the Dark Trooper’s point, Scyntor activated the personal comm.channel to continue speaking to him. ”With the Supreme Moff and I face-to-face, you will be able to ascertain the reality of the situation by our reactions. I do not pretend to know the truth, I only know what my instinct tells me… and it tells me that my brothers and sisters of the Corps are in great danger from him. I just want to find out his side of the argument. The fact that I’ve not asked you to shoot him on sight should be a point in my favor; all I want to do is talk on my own terms instead of his.”

Another click on the channel, and the two troopers and one Colonel-General moved further through the halls. They wove through some main access passages, some maintenance routes, and a couple of hidden doorways before finding themselves on an auxiliary node connecting the Supreme Moff’s office to a system of direct connections to other offices. Scyntor backed into a corner, his G-10 raised as he listened and waited. He clicked the command communications channel on and spoke softly, his voice a harsh and guttural sound as his adrenaline began to surge.

”All teams, status report.”

Captain watched in an emotionless fashion as Scyntor spoke, the Stormtrooper officer had apparently remembered that the only one the IVs owed any loyalty to was Darth Vader, and him alone. 198 did silently agree though that with Scyntor and Jendob face to face, the truth of the matter shall be unveiled and if either was a traitor, that they would be dealt with in the traditional fashion.

He personally hoped that neither man was acting with their own interests above the Empire's...it wouldn't be a pleasant sight if that was the case.

Captain checked his rifle, he had done numerous checks on his armor and weapon systems before they left, but this was a very delicate operation with no room for mistakes. Satisfied with the condition of the weapon he shouldered it and waited silently with the Colonel General with his finger resting lightly on the trigger.

”All teams, status report.”

Sleeper moved her attention away from her palm consol and keyed her comms again, "Communications tap set up Sir." she brought up the feed from the Supreme Moffs office, "From outgoing connections the Supreme Moff seems to be checking on IntelForce readyness reports - do you want me to try and probe into his personal files for information?"

307 opened a channel to the General. "Patrol manifest has been editted, General. All patrols in this area and near the Supreme Moff's office have been rerouted to the hangars."

Lieutenant crouched, and leaned against the wall of the corridor they were now in. Sliding a small fiber-optic cable out of his helmet, he directed it around the corner he was against, and initiated a thermal, and infrared scan. Nothing. The corridor they were in must have been a high traffic area, but not at this time of day.

Confirming that the way was clear, he raised his G-10, and made his way around the corner into the corridor. It appeared that the other teams had done their jobs well, as there wasn't a single guard in sight. However, that didn't mean that there weren't going to be any in the near future. They were now just a few corridors over from the Supreme Moff's office. Once the door was in sight, he would comm the other team, and order them to seal off the Moff's section of the palace from the rest. Once that was finished, their job would be complete. All they would have to do is get out of the palace undetected. Simple enough for a DT-IV.

Continuing on, Lieutenant wondered why he was alright with doing this. Taking action against the Supreme Moff, and the head of the Intelligence branch. Moving through the various halls, and passageways of the palace to possibly kill a member of the Imperial High Command, Lieutenant could only describe the way it felt as surreal. While he didn't want to think about the operation too much in the moral sense, he knew he had to. Were they doing the right thing for the Empire in the long run? What effects would removing the Supreme Moff from office, or murdering him have? These were the questions he needed to know before he would be 'okay' with the operation. However, for now, he would do his job without question. There would be time for sorting it all out once they were in the Moff's office.

Scyntor looked to the Captain, then the Lieutenant, before pulling a deep breath. After this there would be no looking back - he could still turn around and walk away if he wanted to. But no, this needed to be done, and the Colonel-General was the best one for it.

He removed his helmet, then the various pieces of the Storm Commando armor he wore, revealing the pressed blue suit he wore underneath. It would not do well to show up in full battle armor, he would leave that to the two Phase IV Dark Troopers that would be escorting him. His fingers worked over the leg armor, detaching the custom SE-10 blasters that were clipped there and strapping them to his own legs. His fingers reached into his pocket and fingered the hilt of his old, worn vibroblade, before he stood up straight.

Reaching for the backplate of the armor, he withdrew his cane from the recess built into it and spun it around, then let the tip touch the floor gently, the signal to move out. He took the lead, with Captain on his right and Lieutenant on his left, walking through the hall with purpose. The artificial light glinted off his bald skull as he paced through the halls, void of any and all personnel, before turning and stopping in front of the Supreme Moff's office.

"Stormtrooper security override, authorization Scyntor Alpha-492." The door hissed open, and Scyntor stepped in while leaving the two Dark Troopers outside. The Colonel-General smiled, that sort of half-smile one gets when seeing someone they don't particularly care for, more than likely a Gungan. His voice was gravelly, soft, and lethal.

"I would say I hope I'm not interrupting anything, but the fact of the matter is I do - you and I have matters to discuss." The Supreme Moff was sitting at a data terminal, poring over some unknown bit of data. Scyntor tapped his cane twice against Ams Jendob's desk, the signal for the Dark Troopers to move in.

198 and his second in command both moved in when they heard the signal, their movements were both fluid and flawless, executed with absolute control despite being encased in so much armor plating. They kept their weapons lowered, but they kept a tight grip on them and were ready to raise and fire them at the drop of a pin.

Each standing at around seven feet in height the two Dark Troopers must have been a menacing sight, and as Jendob had some knowledge of them and their purpose, he would be able to understand how serious this meeting was with two of them there...as would Scyntor.
This was a delicate situation and 198 had concerns, but when he was created, one of the things that was drilled into him was absolute loyalty to the Empire and Darth Vader alone. His sworn duty was to defend the Empire from threats from outside...and in.

Captain wondered whether the General truly had the best interests in the Empire in mind when he planned this.

He clicked the Lieutenant's private comm once, a signal to stay ready for any actions taken by either man. 198 also checked his motion sensor, nothing withing a twenty five meter radius aside from his forces. Now all there was to do was make sure no one interfered with this meeting.

I glowered up at the bald Stormtrooper commander. His arrogance, his swagger, and his treason... I would have loved to end them all with a searing tibanna bolt through his skull. However, the armored forms behind him, weapons levelled at Shayera, immediately removed that option. Almost any other trooper, and the risk would've been acceptable. She was a good soldier, and her armor could protect her from most attacks, even to the head. But the new weapons those troops carried would quickly overwhelm her. And our sidearms were no match for their armor.

Unless... My thoughts wandered to what stood behind a partition in the office, though my eyes stayed locked on the general. That damned cane of his was still in his hand, and I felt a strong urge to forcibly insert it into his body... not necessarily by way of any existing orifice, either. But those damned guards of his...

To think, I was just designing a mission for them, too. Now, they were being used in a coup. Wonderful.

"And what might that be?" I asked, keeping my voice cool. I wouldn't give him the satisfaction of knowing what I was thinking. "Take a seat."

"I prefer to remain standing, Supreme Moff. Now, if you will kindly ask your mate and your bodyguard that is resting behind the office partition to exit this room, I can assure you this discussion will not take long. No matter what is found in this office today, I can assure you that the resolution will come quickly."

The "damned cane" rested comfortably in his large hand, his thumb brushing a non-existent spot on the rounded head. His physical size was already intimidating, but added to the fact that Jendob was still seated gave him an easy 75 centimeters of additional height over his form. The dual SE-10 blasters strapped to his legs were an indication of the hostilities that could erupt, but for the moment the Colonel-General was rather peaceable comparatively.

He knew he was currently in command of the situation, but how long that would last he didn't know. The politician he could dismiss as a threat: even though he had personally designed IntelForce's training regimen and had been an exemplary physical candidate in the Imperial Navy before the Battle of Endor, his age was beginning to show and his reflexes had already proven to be suboptimal.

Shayera was a different matter, a product of millennia of evolution. The broad wings, currently folded behind her, were capable of propelling her faster than most human minds could consider, yet Scyntor had already diagnosed her as a potential threat, which is why she currently rested at the nexus of the Phase IV Dark Trooper's weapons. any move and she would be incinerated by a firestorm of blasters, and yet the Dark Troopers behind him were waiting with infinite patience.

A moment of silence passed between them, then Scyntor lifted a hand in introduction to the men behind him. "As you can see, Supreme Moff, my intentions are not hostile yet. If they were, I would simply have come in with guns blazing and melted you where you sit. Nobody would mourn your passing for quite some time... if they could identify your remains. All I want is a one-on-one discussion between you and I, and we will see what must happen after that."

The Colonel-General flashed a half-smile towards Shayera, then looked back at the Supreme Moff who was still glowering, yet hadn't moved from his seat. "I do not want your wife to hear what I have to say, Supreme Moff, lest she lose her self-control and do something all of us would later regret. I would hate to think of a being so lovely as a hostile target."

The words were not meant as a come-on by any stretch of anyones imagination, but rather a light-hearted attempt to assuage the tension in the room while maintaining his control of the situation. His footsteps echoed mutedly across the walls as he paced, appearing to be distracted by the works of art and motivational posters located within. Ever the corporate figurehead...

198 tensed slightly as he heard the mention of a bodyguard. It was more of a reflex than anything, he scanned the room with his eyes, though to the casual observer it wouldn't seem like he was moving at all, his movements so precisely controlled after all the years of training.
He ran through his mind all the known Imperial forces, considering what each unit's chance would be for a bodyguard. The Intel Heavies were too big for the office, Observs wouldn't be much of a problem to neutralize...nor would many of the other units on his mental list like the Storm Commandos or one of the older Phase IIs.

There was one oddity however, he had hear rumors of new assault droids being developed, 198 in the past had used some of the assets allowed to him by Darth Vader to investigate these reports and rumors but with no luck.
Although there those new Terminator droids from Cyberdyne about a year ago. He wondered if there was a link...

He adjusted the audio receptors of the helmet speakers to pick up more of the surrounding area and used several filters to cut out the background noise all via his suit's neural interface. Some would marvel at this most perfect merger of man and machine...the Phase IVs were not among them however. They were the ones who were the perfect merging after all, one got used to the fact after awhile.

His finger rested lightly on his rifle's trigger as he waited...

'Sleeper' bent over the controls of the security consol, using interfaces from her armour to link herself into the security network across the floor, ensuring no signals slipped through the isolation net she was throwing up that would send security patrols rushing back to the Supreme Moff - she was only half paying attention to her duties though, the trooper was linked up to the audio and visual feeds in the Supreme Moffs office watching the confrontation play out with mild intrest, but also trying to keep an eye out for her superiors.

The security personelle she had been distracting for the past few minutes sent another query back to the substation - they weren't finding anything on the trail of fake breadcrumbs she was leading them on and they, quite rightfully, were getting rather aggravated - "Trail of breadcrumbs," she mumered to herself before glancing at one of her team "We're does a 'trail of breadcrumbs' come from?" the trooper glanced at her and shrugged, she shook her head "Nevermind..." she flicked on her comms unit and connected to 198's signal.

"Captain, Sir, the security teams are getting somewhat restless - withdrawl time is slowley squeezing up here...orders?"

I suppressed an urge to tear the pompous nerf-fellater's head from his shoulders. How dare that pig barge into my office and threaten my wife? Of course, he did so under heavy escort, showing he knew he'd otherwise be a blaster-riddled corpse had he tried this on his own.

"Say it... it might be your only chance," I seethed.

You know, vocal insults are all well and good, but you could leave just a teeny bit of the personal thoughts personal.

The man's anger was evident, even to a blind dung beetle on Tatooine, nevertheless Scyntor kept his cool and demeanor. This was not the first time insults or anger had been thrown in his direction, and was not the first time he had not retaliated. Self-control was just as important as a killing mindset in situations such as these, and it would be better to let Jendob simmer in his own pool of fury. Angry men made mistakes, found it more difficult to shield their true intents, and therefore made it much easier for him to track down the truth.

"As you wish. Ams Jendob, your actions over the past couple of years have lent me serious doubt as to your intentions for the Empire. Your rapid dealings with the Rebels on Mon Calamari, no doubt planed while their defenses on Thyferra were already being crushed by the Fifth Fleet, are highly suspicious. You seem very hesitant to mobilize against our sworn enemies, and even more hesitant to put your own neck on the line, instead playing that fine game of politics you always do."

Scyntor slid one of the heavy chairs out and took a comfortable seat, leaning his cane against his arm before folding his hands in his lap. Behind him, the two Dark Troopers remained silent, yet there was no doubt they were listening to both sides of this conversation. He wanted them to hear everything, and no doubt the entire corps of Phase IVs would know these words, ensuring that if anything happened they would reach the Emperor's ears.

"You have no balls, Jendob, no moxie, no resolve to bringing the galaxy under a single order. You are content to let the men and women and aliens who, just a few years ago, nearly eradicated us at Endor simply stand by and not be punished for their treason to the Galactic Empire. We lost some of our best commanders in that pile, not to mention several trillion credits worth of materials and personnel in the explosion of the second Death Star, and you continue to negotiate with them for what? A planet and a half, which is of nearly no use to us?"

The Colonel-General leaned forward, his voice dropping a bit: not enough to make the conversation personal, but to lend added weight to the venom in his voice. "But what disturbs me most, Jendob, is the formation of your pet IntelForce. Emperor Palpatine, for all my disagreements with his style, designated the Stormtrooper corps to be THE elite shock troopers in the galaxy. The Imperial Army outnumbers us by more than a thousand do one, and yet if necessary we could take them head-on and emerge victorious because that is who and what we are.

"However, it seems that you have taken it upon yourself to create a new corps. This I've not a problem with, except for what I've found in my digging for information. They outnumber us by two to one. Again, this isn't a concern. The concern lies with the fact that they are receiving better training at the hands of the Brotherhood on Yinchorr, where I only send my best students. They have also received better equipment, which has been in existence since before I had my R&D teams work on the Mark II armor. Your sequestering of information casts a shadow of doubt on my perspectives of you."

He leaned back again, his voice lifting louder, the edge becoming more pronounced, accusatory. "The final nail in your coffin, Jendob, is not the fact that I've spent money creating inferior products as to what already exists, nor that you've created a force that could destroy me. What has brought me here today is the fact that they report to you. Not the Emperor, not the Empire, not High Command... but you, personally. You've got them stationed on every planet, on every ship in the Navy... if you wanted to, you could at the very least destroy everything we have tried to build since Endor, and at worst take over. As a Stormtrooper first and a High Commander second, I cannot sit for this. Today is your final chance, Jendob. Either you prove to me that your loyalties are with the Empire, and prove beyond the specter of a doubt that I can trust you... or you will be arrested and charged with High Treason, and I will personally execute you for these crimes.

His fingers steepled as he leaned back, feeling the tension build in the room. While it appeared he was looking Ams directly in the eye, his attention was instead on Shayera Jendob, and listening for any other movement in the office. If anything went awry he needed to be able to move fast, and strike lethally.

I looked at the Colonel-General in disbelief. Then, incredibly, I chuckled. The chuckle soon turned into a laugh. "You think I'm trying to take over the Empire?" I asked. "You... you honestly..." The rest of words dissolved.

Finally, I stared the officer squarely in the eye. "So, this is all about my troops have better equipment than yours and you have no control of them? I didn't think Stormtroopers were so... petty."

Through the laughter Scyntor never wavered. He did not move, did not get angry, did not laugh with him... nothing. He was patient, would be willing to wait until the man finally came to grips with the gravity of the situation: the Supreme Moff's life, at this point, was hanging on what could amount to two words. This particular stress did not seem to register on him yet, so it was time to up the ante.

"I would advise you to be careful with your words, Jendob. Those "petty" stormtroopers are the ones with the guns pointed at your head, and the one that has their ear is currently the one you are insulting. How you ascended to your post and still remain so naive is both amusing and alarming; however, that is not the point of this discussion."

Scyntor stood and took up his cane, pacing towards one of the file cabinets almost lazily. He could feel the eyes upon him, sense the budding impatience within the Dark Troopers behind him, and above all knew that this situation could rapidly dissolve into chaos at a moment's notice. For the time being, though, it was peaceable.

"As I am sure your colleague Yittreas has informed you, I hold less concern about who commands the masses so much as who does not. The Navy is commanded by the Grand Admirals, the army by the Grand General, the stormtroopers by me, and the starfighter corps by the Grand Marshal. However, you are in a position of unique and disturbing power, not only being of a rank shared by only four other individuals compared to my sixteen, but you are also the Emperor's Executor.

"The freedom your position enjoys is not a concern, as I have stated before I have no issue as to who commands the forces. My concern is that, as the Executor, you do not have to answer to Emperor Vader concerning your actions, you only need state that your actions are on his behalf. But I've watched you, Jendob, I know how politicians work... and I can tell when people are lying to me."

He turned to face Jendob, and the time for games was over. Setting the cane aside, in a fluid motion he pulled the DC-17 blaster that was tucked in the holster at his belt and flicked the safety off, leveling the barrel between Jendob's eyes. His voice had lost all of its cool demeanor, and in its place was the seething wrath of a man feeling as if his life and his home were at stake. His eyes were locked on the Supreme Moff's, and his finger rested lightly on the trigger.

"This is your final opportunity, Jendob. Either you tell me your intents for IntelForce and make me believe it, or you will not live to see the outside of this office ever again."

Lieutenant cocked his head slightly at the Supreme Moff's response. He laughed. In the face of two DT-IVs, Scyntor holding weapons on him, bringing forth charges of treason, he laughed. It was an odd response, although the following sentence was obviously an attempt at goading Scyntor into a fight.

Gripping his G-10 tighter, he thumbed the selector switch to the grenade launcher, and listened as the HEAT round thunked into place within the upper tube. He wanted to get to the truth, not listen to a pissing match between branch heads.

If this didn't get resolved soon, he wondered if they could both be turned over to the courts.

More posturing. Scyntor was obviously used to his size scaring his victims into intimidation. If that failed, he resorted to his weapons. But this "politician" had faced down much bigger thugs with bigger guns... and in bigger numbers. Apparently, Scyntor knew very little about who he was facing.

"Actually, I don't think the Stormtroopers themselves are 'petty,'" I smiled. "And, as a matter of fact, I tell the IntelForce troops to work alongside your men. They're actually much closer in purpose than you realize.

"IntelForce is meant to police the military, to report the ones that are disloyal so they can be dealt with. In case you didn't notice, COMPNOR is gone. What few good ideas they did have were taken over by Intelligence and the general bureaucracy... with the Emperor's blessing, I might add. They're the new CompForce, if you will.

"But, instead of hurling thousands of men in to soak up fire, they're soldiers in their own right. And they have to be. They're outnumbered seventy to one on board a Star Destroyer, and they have to be able to retake it if it goes rogue," I explained to him, calmly and collected.

"As for their numbers, you're gravely mistaken. They compare to the size of the Corps, not twice its size. Most of that comes from the brigade attached to Army Corps, same as their predecessors in CompForce," I said. "Actual assault forces are roughly between a million and two."

I folded my arms. "So, do what you will. Just bear in mind that if you do kill me, it's unlikely that Vader will let a single Stormtrooper escape. I may hold them in high regard, but he views them as battle droids with softer components. Bear that in mind."

"Fancy words. You certainly know how to soothe the savage politician, I can see why you are the primary diplomatic liaison for the Empire. However, you forget that I am not a politician... I'm a warrior. And you forgot something."

Scyntor's response was to click the priming lever of the blaster, the soft whine of the gas charging resounding in the space. Finally, with the coldness of interstellar space, his voice came. "You didn't answer my question, Jendob, the one question that will keep you alive. Your evasiveness may work on the negotiating table, but when you have a cold-blooded killer pointing a gun at your head the time for pussyfooting around the issue is long since passed."

The gun moved closer as Scyntor circled the desk, approaching and ultimately pressing the muzzle of the blaster to the man's forehead, just below his receding hairline. "This is the last time, Jendob. Where... do your loyalties lie?"
