I don't think Christopher Nolan likes Penguin. There certainly are elements of the comics he's been adamant he won't put in.

In a few interviews both he and Bale have mentioned how difficult it would be to do the Penguin (seeing as this is supposed to be a more realistic Batman). Nolan then talked about the possibility of the Riddler for a future film and it being played by David Tennant (Dr. Who).

They also said there will be no Robin. Ever. :P

Tenant as the Riddler...hmmm...

Also why is the Penguin hard to do? I meen he's the MOST realistic of all the villains in Batman because he's essentially a short fat crimelord with a bird fetish.

At first, I didn't like the idea of the Riddler (Jim Carrey's performance was SO the antithesis of everything that Christopher Nolan was doing with the movies), but the more I think about it, the more I think Christopher Nolan could pull it off. I mean, look at the

SPOILERS FOR THE DARK KNIGHT

mindgames the Joker played with Gotham's Finest...the ferries, the man who was going to reveal Batman's identity...they were excellent ideas, and well executed. I think Christopher Nolan could do a good job of the Riddler's riddles. My one main complaint is the Riddler's character motivation -- it would have to be really stepped up to the level where he would threaten the city on a large scale.

I like the idea of Harley Quinn making an appearance -- not nessecarily decked out in the jester attire of the comics, but as someone who is corrupted by the Joker and begins to run his criminal organization. In this way, the Joker's presence could be felt without ever having to explicitly show him -- as he is likely in such isolation that Dr. Quinn, his psychologist, is the only person with contact to him.

Ra's Al Ghul could always make another appearance, though it's unlikely: Nolan is staying away from the mysticism that would allow him to escape a huge monorail crash. Talia Al Ghul, his daughter and a long-time love interest of Batman in the comics could certainly appear, however. With Rachel Dawes out of the picture, Bruce Wayne needs a new love interest.

Harvey Dent's fall was, according to a producer, left 'ambigous' as to the character's fate. While I'd love to see Aaron Eckhart back on screen, it would require either a lame breakout sequence or a type of recovery akin to what happens in the comic set in the future. Although, with my next idea, the breakout might not be that lame.

The one character I think would have a very good shot would be Bane. Now, most people only know the Bane presented in the movie with Arnold Schwarzenegger. This portrayal of Bane as a drugged-up, rampaging juggernaught makes his character seem very two-dimensional. In the comics, however, he is as smart as he is strong, running an effective criminal organization during the No Man's Land period of the comics.

And there's the idea: No Man's Land. While it may be a bit of a stretch to have a random earthquake hit Gotham (a tough Deus Ex Machina to work out), some sort of event which throws Gotham into a chaos not even Batman can effectively deal with alone might be interesting, as well as allowing Harvey Dent free reign throughout the city, dealing out death at the flip of a coin to those who wronged him. Throw in Bane, rebuilding the city in his own image, or Harley Quinn, doing much the same, and you have a good chemistry of villains to oppose Batman.

Maybe we be having some respect for a poor, talented man who died at an early age instead?

See, I disagree. Although it would have to be different than your staple villain in the general sense, I did read one take on him that I thought could work pretty well.

Quote:
Penguin: Could work, if we work with the low-umbrella-trick semi-legit version. It would be interesting if Penguin were set up as a squat, ugly but charismatic and intelligent man who's seeming legitimacy makes him an opponent that must be fought by Bruce Wayne, not Batman.

Who knows. They could pull it off. I'd still sooner see Catwoman than anyone else, I think, but I doubt that'll be happening anytime soon.

I sincerely doubt it after they tried making her go solo. :p

After all, what is it Lucius said to Bruce when he asked if the armor would hold off dogs? "It'd definetly hold up to a cat" :p

I thought that too, and I recently heard a rumor that she could be appearing, but I was horrified at the actress they named. Angelina Jolie.

They were also pointing to Johnny Depp as the Riddler and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin. Once again, none of this is even close to being confirmed, but hey, it's out there. Frankly, I think Depp would be a good choice for the Riddler. Maybe not the best, but I'm sure he wouldn't disappoint. Jolie on the other hand....

At least it seems she can act, as opposed to Ms. Berry. :p

OMG.
That would be amazing. Depp. And Jolie. I happen to be rather fond of her.

I agree. Granted, she probably wouldn't be as bad as the Halle Berry version, but I am fairly certain that she could not pull of a convincing Catwoman. Especially in the Nolan-verse.

But then again, that's what everyone said about Ledger and the Joker. Nolan has a talent for surprising his fans.

And now I'm sure everyone heard, but Morgan Freeman is now in the hospital, after flipping his car several times off the highway.
