It was assigned to Naboo, but Ams doesn't much like it.

No, Coruscant is English.

Ord Mantell = German
Coruscant = English
[Old] Corellia = Latin
Naboo = Italian
Bakura = Norwegian
Alderaan = French
Thanagar = Spanish

(and I take offense at whoever said English was the best language *puke*)

Ord Mantell is not changing as long as I am in this game. :p

Naboo, I think it fits sufficiently.

Coruscanti people have British accents, so it's quite agreeable that they should be the spreading influence of Basic, which is English.

I would say a majority of the people from Coruscant (not the rich) would speak like a Brooklyn person. The rich would speak british english

No, that's more like the Corellian system. But it doesn't really matter. The lowlifes of Coruscant would either have a neutral American accent (offworlders primarily) or some vulgar English accent (apologies, I haven't studied English dialects much).

Uh, but it's canon in the films that the accent is British. I don't see the debate with that one.

Or we can stop trying to force Earth languages into a fictional universe that spoke "Basic" as the primary human language for 25,000 years. :p

Eh, take a look at most people here who speak a foreign language. They take on the accent of the must affluent cultural power relative to them, if they seek to take on an accent at all (the other course would be their remaining with their native accent, which is just horrible). Indians speaking English tend to sound British. South Americans speaking English tend to sound American.

If you think about it, though, planetary communities are still great big spheres of culture and more collective than the countries of today, so other languages surviving does make perfect sense.

I know, but I meant the nitpicking like Coruscant being Brooklyn... *shudder*

Besides, that would be Denon. :p

Denon's got the Philly accent. It's all the Brooklyn plus the occasional Meddonite.

I think we just had this exact same conversation on MSN.

Urgghhh... don't get me started about English. :p I'm unsure of what I would classify as the "best" language... but that's a discussion for the party thread, let's keep this to the discussion of languages in game (or preferably, the original topic).

I don't get why we need to assign accents to certain planets anyways. Especially single, individual planets.
