Last year, I started the tradition of holding an annual year end meeting. So, I'll uphold that tradition this year.

I'll summarize the (mostly) technical side of the site and some of the decisions CMAC made this year. After that, please post any comments, "w00t"s, or suggestions that you may have. Thanks for the great year, guys!

Site Statistics

The statistics from this year represent the full year cycle, minus 4 days (since I posted this thread before the end of the year). Last year's statistics start from VIII's opening on SWRPGS.net, which was in March of 2006. The statistics from last year, then, are somewhat incomplete.

Cycle: Jan 1-Dec 27 2007

Average Bandwidth* Per Month: 2.37 gigabytes
Total Bandwidth in the Period: 28.48 gigabytes
Busiest Month: May (4.37 gigabytes)
# of [successful] Hits (Page Loads): 4266837
Most Visited Page (for December): /forums/viewtopic.php
Most Popular Browser: Internet Explorer 7
Most Popular Referrer: A porn site...

Last Cycle: Mar 20-Dec 17 2006

Average Bandwidth* Per Month (9 months): 2.23 gigabytes
Total Bandwidth in the Period: 20.05 gigabytes
Busiest Month: October (3.68 gigabytes)
# of [successful] Hits (Page Loads): 3,297,135
Most Visited Page (for December): posting.php?mode=topicreview&t=1372
Most Popular Browser: Firefox

*Bandwidth is the amount of data transferred between the server and you.

Technical/Managerial Summary for 2007

Earlier in the year, our technical staff began work on the Force system, which was designed for both The Mandalorian Crisis and VIII. The system premiered on KotOR: TMC.

The proprietary framework, used for most of our other network sites, continued to be evolved. A decision was made to redesign SWVIII's current site to accommodate the "CrayWork" framework.

The folding system was added to the forums. A better CAPTCHA was introduced in an attempt to ward off bots, and it has worked well. An experimental, dynamic auto-complete version of the Private Messages sending system was implemented by Cray. Its tests proved to be invaluable to the design of the CrayWork Force System.

Gavin Young (Luke Skywalker) was demoted and Zara (Luke Skywalker) was promoted to Admin. Kalydon Skirata was promoted to Aedile. Swali (Darth Vader) resigned from his position.

The ECP (Elected Plot Committee) was formed with the initial members Arlyn, Carnor Jax and Velora Antana. The ECP has worked on two plots, and their latest plot should be premiering in Q1 2008. Until the plot is to be completed, the current ECP will remain elected until the plot is finished (within the realm of reason).

Towards the end of the year, the site redesign for SWVIII was formally begun. The main sites of SWRPGS.net no longer rely on the inefficient phpBB templating system, but instead on my inefficient templating system. Plans for the revision of the battlesystem were begun.

Status of plans of last year:

  • An improved system for SWVIII's forum. This has been indefinitely postponed due to the amount of work it would require.
  • SWRPGS.net will be hosting a new RPG. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - The Mandalorian Crisis premiered earlier this year.
  • SWRPGS.net will continue to be upgraded. On the surface, the site is really no different than it was 12 months ago, but various changes have been made beneath the skin.

Plans for the coming year:

  • After polling the community, it was decided that the most important features of the new, redesigned site will be a MediaWiki and the CrayWork Force System. These are both (mostly) completed. phpBB will still be used for the forums.
  • The main focus of the year shall be the improving of communications between the various committees and administrators of SWVIII.
  • Related to the above point, the site and the forums systems will become more integrated after the master redesign is complete, which should take place in early- to mid- January. This will foster the ability to get the most out of the VIII experience. The old Holonet will be retired.
  • The PMing system is to be fixed. We've had problems with carbon-copied messages not prompting an alert to the user.
  • The tools section will be redesigned for the new site. Most importantly, the issues tool will be reconstructed to allow for a more "support ticket" style of exchange between CMAC and the players.

The floor is yours. :D

Nice job, Cray! :D

I have nothing to add from my end at the time being.

Faster design review!

...Wait, that's my responsibility... crap. :p

I must say, I'm quite excited over this Wiki. I can't wait until it's open for articles beyond administrative, official, and testing topics. We may well rival Wookieepedia. :p

Or at the least the BSG Wiki. >_>

I doubt we'll rival wookiepedia, but it wont be the disgusting quagmire of the Star Wars Fanon wiki.

Oh hoho....writing background for all of my characters at the moment.

Well, its purpose is not meant to rival Wookieepedia. If you take (most of) Wookieepedia to be the canon, then our Wiki will be the changes and extension to canon defined by this RPG, as well as a place for the administration to document more completely our systems and rules.

As well as our own characters, ships, organizations... WE SHALL BECOME THE ULTIMATE POWER IN THE UNIVERSE! I suggest we use it...

But uh... don't rip off Wookiee or Wiki articles. :p

I didn't think we were going to bother with every detail in the universe like Wookie, but just those details that were decidedly different in ours.

But if we did want to add all those details, we could right? I mean, a lot of stuff we have in our story goes along with canon as well.

It'll all be in the author's manual for the Wiki. I think we all pretty much agree, but we're just saying it in different ways.

Well, some of us participated in canon events. Just, you know... don't c/p from Wookiee. Rewrite, paraphrase... think of a research paper. :p

Well, I'm glad to know that the site runs like an almost entirely powerless town or parish council and keeps records just as meticulously!

And yes, yes, when we crush the puny Rebel scum it'll have to be IX...

But yes. You kind of misunderstood me...

Or perhaps we crush them in VIII, and they destroy us in IX. Perhaps we are beaten in VIII, and then come back with a vengeance in IX.

Perhaps... we should wait and see. :p

Perhaps Ams falls into the depths of Moria while fighting the Balrog and comes back as Ams the White...and...finds that Adria has been letting her Vornskyr urinate on his seat in the Moff Council?

Or perhaps we beat them in VIII and we collapse into Civil War in IX...or come under attack from...something...possibly dogs on crack.
