Would you rather I unleash regiments of Dark Troopers and destroy entire Corps at once? :p

Yes. I would have thought at least batallion scale would make sense. The scale on your model is just too low - we'll have armies of 5,000 guys taking over planets!

Squads are very effective though. Look at Red Dawn, those kids were well coordinated, and a small group of under 12, and yet they managed to destroy Soviet Convoys left and right, and kill a Soviet general before being taken out.

It's a little more complicated than that, you know. >_>

The actual combat is on squad level, in platoon-sized chunks. I'm actually hoping to have multiple admins working on ground battles so we can 2-4 turns done at once and therefore have entire companies engaging.

EDIT: War war? world, even.

And where are you going to find admins to do this, while your current admins are approving designs, issues, and working on space battles at the same time?

He could teach me since I'm unbiased and know my fair share about being an admin at a game.

Alexus... if you want to march a million Nespian troops out, shoulder-to-shoulder, in perfect rank and file, raise your blasters, and volley, be my guest. :p

I like writing a good carnage post.

And Xaph, the admins here are pretty flexible.

I have to agree with Alexus, is squad scale really necessary? I thought maybe company size for normal turns, and seeing as VVD makes such a good point, squad scale for missions such as infiltration and reconnaissance, and yes we are doing stealth recce none of that force recon rubbish. :P

Actually, now that you say we might be having entire companies in a post then that might work if you decide to stick with the system. Also, I highly doubt any battles will be like Geonosis where massive armies line up in a field and march slowly towards each other, Alex. :P

Oh god, looking at the Third Battle of Corellia, I'm ashamed to say I fled. I would've given a hell of a fight.

You're right about the whole marching in huge blocks thing, but in RL there were battles in WW2 with millions of troops, and that was on ONE SMALL world. It'd take thousands of turns to work through a whole army, surely?

Isn't that the one where you were stuck between a Rebel and Imperial fleet? :p

I wanted to ask, are we having the battles take place throughout an entire world or will it be like EaW where we just have a map?

Um... yes. Kursk, Stalingrad, Oder Offensive, Overlord, Battle of the Bulge, El Alamein - hell, even the Warsaw uprising - all of those battles had tens to hundreds of thousands of men - even millions - engaged in combat. Unless the desperate German defence of Berlin consisted to 100 men at the front line and 999,900 men acting as support personnel.

Any battles that didn't involve the Russians or that weren't initial invasions? :p

Russians didn't use tactics! What is this nonsense, Stalin just threw more men at the problem.

Yes, Ams, the Battle of the Bulge and Overlord were FULL of Russians. Absolutely FULL of them.

Battle of the Bulge

Allies

December 16—start of the battle: about 83,000 men; 242 Sherman tanks, 182 tank destroyers, and 394 pieces of corps and divisional artillery.

Germans

December 16—start of the battle: about 200,000 men, 5 armoured divisions, 12⅔ infantry divisions, and about 500 medium tanks, supported by 1,900 guns and Nebelwerfers.

One battle on one front of one war.

Battle of Kursk

Germany
2,700 tanks
800,000 infantry,
2,000 aircraft

Soviet Union
3,600 tanks
1,300,000 men,
2,400 aircraft

Battle of Berlin

Soviet Union
2,500,000 soldiers,
6,250 tanks,
7,500 aircraft,
41,600 artillery pieces

Germany
1,000,000 men

Food for thought, IMO :P

Your question is hard, Carlist. :(

Namely because it'll kinda be a hybrid. You will be fighting all over the planet, I assume (obviously, there are scenarios where that would neither be necessary or required).

And the Bulge was a Zergling rush... which FAILED. :p
