The following takes place just before the IMS Titan leaves orbit.

It was a beautiful day, for most of the populace. The sun was out, the sky was clear; and the airways and streets were abuzz with business. To Jase, it was a simply disgusting sight. So many, blissfully ignorant of every aspect of death around them. People who wanted to go on pretending as if there was no certainty to it; as if it was simply a small creature, nipping at their heels that they could avoid. No, death was the only certainty with life. Jase knew this first hand. For so many, he had been that certainty. How many had tasted the cold release from their mortal coils at his hands?

How many had died at his hands in the name of credits? How many for the simple pleasure that ending a life brought him? As far as he was concerned, only one mattered. The one that had never been intended to die from his actions. Erics. Jase wondered why he had ever thought the boy would be safe following at his heels. That carefree child, struck down in his youth because of the attention JAse had brought to himself.

It all stemmed from Calias Ketra, actually. Jase had never killed a man in such a public manner. He had never been caught in the act, never used such overt methods for one act of revenge. Stealth had always been Jase's tool. Surprise, or simply killing a man before he ever knew there was someone else in the room. Before he could even realize his head was being removed by an unknown attacker. No, Jase had let himself lose control of his emotions, just once; and it had cost him everything.

That single act was what had drawn Avaritus to him. That single act was what had brought about the eventual demise of young Erics Renaul. The child who laughed when Jase made veiled threats to others. The boy who grinned and always was eager to learn Jase's ways. The youth who idolized an assasin; and viewed him and a bounty hunter as family. Erics Renaul, the one glimmer of light in Jase Denora's life, gone forever.

It had been many months, since then. Yet, Jase could never stop the grieving, nor the blame. Now, he walked with a cane, unsure if he would ever recover from the accident that cost him his ship. His probabtion was nearly up, he would soon be a free man again. however, he knew there was no redemption for him. He would always be a killer, no matter what he tried to tell himself.

Then, there was Sarafina. She had stumbled upon Skywalker's funeral. Jase had told Sergeant Herdez to ensure that her and Jase's son, something Jase hated himself for, would be escorted off the planet safely. Oh, he was sure he could love a son that he had fathered, but he could not risk the same fate to Sarafina and the infant that Erics had met. On his way out of the funeral hall, he had simply said " I'm sorry, " as he had walked past her and out the door.

The sun shone brightly, especially from the rooftop view. He was a good two thousand feet up, gazing out onto the horizon. He would wait for sunset, then, he would simply jump. There was no hope for redeeming him, he could never change what he was. This was something he expected. he knew many people would rejoice when they heard. A woman from Naboo and an infant might shed tears, but none would grieve. All he wanted to do, was wait until the sunset.

It would only be fitting that he jump at the sun's fall. The twilight would be the perfect accent to his demise. He watche dhis chronometer, he still had around three hours. It did not matter, when the sun fell, so would he. Then, the Galaxy would no longer have this merchant of death to fear. The Rebel Alliance would no longer be judged for harboring a murderer. Everyone and everything, was going to find life better, without Jase Denora. " Soon, it ends..."

The planet surface of Denon was much different from an individual's perspective than Eve had thought, the skies were beautiful at growing night as the billions of people finished their day. Speeders streaked across the sky, Eve knowing the traffic system computers and droids worked to maintain moderate flows rather diligently. The blonde replica droid climbed the final stairs of the building, her eyes finding a human on the top. Her systems ran, Jase Denora. Many reasons existed as to why the man was up here, perhaps the view, an escape from his troubles, but by the expressions and the attitude, she gathered a rather defeated man. Her observations and hypothesis on this theory had yet to be proven.

In a calm and gentle voice, she looked at the dying sunset, "It's beautiful. Isn't it?" She approached him, every part of her assessing the situation and the steps to either save her own body or his if he was suicidal. The world was far different than Eredenn Prime's barren ice wasteland, this planet was filled with so much life. So many decisions, choices rested within each and every of these citizens. What was Denora's choice of being here? She waited, her eyes focusing on the sun and took in every bit of information.

Soon, very soon...

There was just a little under an hour left, then the sun would make it's final descent; and so would Jase. Emotionless grey eyes scanned the horizon, eyes that belonged to a broken man, clutching onto a walking staff just to stand. The voice that came from behind was unfamiliar. Not that he hadn't heard the owner coming. There were just some things that years as an assasin ingraiined as instinct and reflex. It was a droid....a simple observation. Every living thing left an impression on the Force. Droids, however, did not. Jase had been mildly astonished to learn that this is what had given him that feeling when things were behind him before he knew he could weild the Force.

" Beauty is relative, I find the light to be harsh, the dark is kinder on the eyes." Jase drew his favored lightsaber, the purple blade hissing to life. He held it at his side, blade pointed outward and towards the ground. " Tell me, why has a droid chosen this particular rooftop for viewing?", he said, keeping his back to the new arrival.

The man was an interesting case of boilogical instability, the lightsaber was activated but for what purpose? Hundreds of possibilities raced in her mind, but her Human Replica programming had a different approach and for the first time in her short existance, she allowed that programming to proceed here.

"There are many reasons I came." Eve said softly, the focus shifting from the blade to the sunset. "To observe, mostly." She paused allowing the sounds of the speeders and the distance fill her replicated ears before she continued, "The sun is harder on the eyes." she chuckled, the brightness caused more filters, more subtle adjustments within her ocular pieces. "I enjoy watching the many, processing hundreds of thousands different calculations at once versus being alone or minimal things to analyze. For example, the air alone is refreshing, the smells of thousands of different locations filled with each intake...."

She paused, not wanting to overwhelm the human. She processed the smells, the sights, the feel of the cold breeze and asked rather kindly, “Why are you here Jase?" The heels of her shoes clicked as she walked towards the edge of the building, not near him or his blade, but towards her own edge. She overlooked the planetside waiting ever silent for his response.

It was interesting, Jase didn't want to destroy the droid. Perhpas it was the fact that, while appearing human and able to experience many human senses and sensations, she was simply not alive. There could be no joy in destroyinga lifeless being. It was knowing that you were ending something that had lived, grown, experienced, with no programming, no actual instinct, just alive; that was the joy in delivering death. Still, there was quarante that the droid was not here to make an attempt on his own life.

He could not believe that it was mere coincidence that brought the machine to this exact location at this exact time. of course, he hadn't felt like he had been followed on the way here. Still, Jase did not believe in coincidence. for every action, there was a reason behind it. " You know who I am?," Jase said softly, looking out across the fading horizon. " Not many civilian droids would have files on me. Plus, you are clearly HRD. This brings even more into question. owever, I do not have time to speculate. Soon, the night shall fall and...so shall I."

"I am a Human Replica Droid belonging to the Security Chief." Eve was rather honest of her nature. "You have life, Jase Denora. You have a freedom of making choices, which will have thousands of consequences which you are not free to choose." She spoke more slowly, letting the sun fall, "You are a man, a free man. By my assessment, you have only started a difficult life. A life where your actions are limited, your desires are frowned upon and your past despised." She related that to her own self, "I have existed and my own actions are limited by programming, my desires are also frowned or discouraged by religious and anti-droid fanatics. My past is hidden, secretive, but that does not mean that galaxy would not hesitate to hate my own existence." Eve had assisted in several invasions; several battle coordination since the dawn of her supercomputer.

"Would you choose to throw your life, your sentience, when the sun sets? If you do, you ignore the rise of the moon and the beauty the reflection of the sun gives upon the life of the night. Biological forms are one way by day and seem to change at the frame of night. Droids do not know this. We exhibit the same, the persona never changing." she paused, the millions of ways to explain this was more difficult to get across, than a massive assimilation of data packets. "Life is very precious thing, Jase. You hold the answer whether that means something to you, or it doesn't. You can die at the sunset, but you won't experience the moonrise. A second part of life. Your choice."

Jase turned to face her, grey eyes gazing upon an attractive, human looking female. Of course, she was a droid; and Jase did not believe in the feeling called lust. " For a man like me, some would say the moon is a curse as well. Though, it does offer shadows. No, I prefer complete darkness. So many fear it, yet, embracing it brings true understanding of the nature of life......death." Jase disengaged his lightsaber. If Arlyn had sent Eve to kill him, she would have sent more. Still, this didn't add up.

" You speak of life as if a gift. No, I assure you, it is a curse. Life is full of pain, of misery. The ones you love, care about, are taken from you. There is only one certainty in life, it will bring death. Why would you wish for that? Wish to feel? To be able to care? No, enjoy your neutrality, for that is a true gift. I allowed myself to feel once, it cost me a son. I allowed myself to love, it brought death upon a child who should have grown. Tell me, why? Why would you wish misery and hurt upon yourself?

Eve processed his questions, his definitions of life and death. "Why is it you enjoy the murder, the brutality or simple killings? Is it because you end their sufferings? Is it because you put an end to another's misery? I believe you kill to fill a void in your life. A temporary pleasure from the difficulty of living without the boy you have claimed to have lost." Erics was his name, but revealing too much information was naive.

"To feel remorse, means you have felt happiness, you have felt love and devotion. Does it not?" She could only provide educated guesses on human emotions, "The gamble of life is rarely won in our favor. Sometimes we lose small things, insignificant things. Other times, we lose the most precious, the objects which dissect the heart in a painful manner."

She didn't know if the words were true, but they were spoken in millions of varieties across the galaxy, "If you feel remorse, Jase, is it not a good thing? It shows that you have lost something special, and the need to accept that, is now. The boy may or may not exist in the secondary phase of life, that, I cannot say." her own beliefs were irrelevant at the time, "Is there not another child that will look to you as a brother or as a father? Another broken and torn individual that will look to you as their hero and their savior? The galaxy is a dark place, you know it best in this form. It can change. Billions of children experience poverty. They experience slavery, beyond your comprehension. They face the chains of a destined pained existence. In your logic, it would be justified in ending their lives to prevent such an doomed life. But that would mean the hope they live for each day is denied, the hope they give each other, the private solitude they have within their souls..."

She paused and answered truthfully, "I do not have the answers to these questions. I can only wonder. Only you can answer these. I do, however, know that you can choose a 'better' outcome for yourself. You can make a second tide, a resurrection of hope and charity. You have a biological son, do you not? Ninety percent odds dictate that he will grow into you, at this very state, if you are absent from his life. He will pursue the man he never knew, and become the thing which you despise." She stopped. He was informed of the grave mistakes suicide could create and now the sun had set. His choice was near.

Jase turned his gaze from her, heading out to the edge of the roof. He stood, watching the sun fade from view. " You know of my son? I only found out today... Am I really such a threat that I must be watched that closely? I assure you, I feel regret, but for two individuals. Calias Ketra, an innocent man that I killed in a Dark fueled vengeance. And my adoptive son, who died as a result of my killing an innocent. I am not some indiscriminate psycopath, droid. True, releasing on of life brings pleasure. It is not something I can explain, it simply is."

" However, I do not roam the streets, slaughtering anyone I come across. No, I am far more then that. I will wish no other child my part in their life, not even one I created. He has a loving mother, a good planet to be raised on. He has everything a child could wish for at his fingertips. he will not turn into me, for my circumstances were far graver then his. i had no choice, but to kill, to survive. That is what I was dealt. To be a child and to be forced to live like an animal. By removing my existence from his life, I do my son and his mother a favor."

" There will always be someone hunting me, droid." Jase looked out over the edge, gazing into the fading abyss. " Ending my own existence may not be the best answer, but I cannot risk the lives of my son and his mother, that would be the cruelest I could ever do."

Eve leaned against a weak railing and stared at the man before her. "Calias Ketra was an interesting individual. I have studied him and have come to the conclusion in your case, that it was a time of war. The brink of destruction of Lambda and the DRWP was near as the Galactic Empire moved to destroy their government. Have you not thought, that by the death of Calias Ketra, you spared hundreds of millions on the surface of Geonosis and perhaps, Arlyn herself?" her voice was kind, still appealing to the brighter hope within the man, "In the game of numbers, it was best to sacrifice his life, perhaps even in brutal sport, to save the world from an invasion. Regret was a necessary feeling, but letting it destroy you, might be foolish."

Ketra was certainly an interesting individual. He had ambitions, he had Arlyn's heart...but he brought the people of Geonosis to war, and created a terrible fire within Arlyn's fiber to continue that. "You may not wish to raise a child, but it is ultimately your role and duty as a parent. I will not support nor curse your raising of a young biological lifeform until you are ready to accept full responsibility."

"The risk of attack on a love one, comes with many positions, even yours. If you required assistance in ensuring their safety, I am here." she paused and finished with, "I prefer Evelynn over droid. Call it my false hope to become more than I am." That, and the identity of her true name might reveal too much. At least at this point in their fellowship.

" No..., I cannot take that responsibility, not yet. There is one out there, who would pursue everything I love and destroy it, simply to anger me. Until I have destroyed him, I cannot risk having a family. You must understand.... Evelynn, that I would wish nothing more then a family, that which I lacked as a whelp. However, we must make sacrifices for those we love. To seperate myself from that which I wish for, it is a sacrifice I must endure until I have destroyed the man that would destroy them."

" Why would you offer me your assistance? Do you not elong to Pallanen? Do you not fear any recourse from your mistrees by being around me? Surely, you were not designed to 'protect' me..."

He was right in a sense that his existence provided a risk to those he loved, but so did many professions and persons in the galaxy. Her eyes watched the rare sighting of a beelivian butterfly raise in the night, the wings fighting against the soft breeze, yet the powerful strokes and beats causing the insect to rise ever so gently. Eve extended her finger mesmerized by the tiny creation as it fluttered to the tip of her finger. It's legs were so tiny compared the wings which folded, to prevent a wind's tear.

"Most things in the galaxy must fight for their survival. It can be a beautiful thing." she released the butterfly, the moon's light causing the creature beam and shine in the darkness as it fluttered away and towards the distant traffic. "Or it can be a violent struggle." The wind had increased as the butterfly flew away from the building's wind shield. It's wings were so stressed by the current, they collapsed and it dove downwards.

Eve stalled her explanation; the timing of her voice and explanation perfect. "But sometimes, both light and dark things need to be done in order to survive." The butterfly rose, its wings adapting to fly with the current, instead of against it."We will learn that some things will carry us, and others with destroy us. Murder can carry you, but for how long? It may be your desire, what quenches the imperfect soul, however, it has a tendency to create more pain, more suffering in the galaxy. I do not know your past, Denora, but I'd like to know your future." She smiled gently, her eyes still watching the beelivian butterfly dance in the current of Denon's breeze.

" Yes, Light and Dark must be done..." , Jase said, watching the butterfly struggle against the current. " You speak well of these things, for not being alive yourself. Tell me, do your words come from programmed texts on human psychology? Or do you have a capacity to learn and have watched people for some time? I will tell you this, the desire to murder was not something I had a choice in acquiring. I first took a life when I was but a child, in defense, for I would have surely died had I not killed first."

" I did not choose for death to bring pleasure. Of course, I cannot blame my circumstances for my choices as an adult. Tell me," he said, turning to face her once more. " What is it about me that fascinates you? That makes you wish to 'know my future', as you put it."

"My abilities are not your concern." Eve turned with a smile, "Your life is different than most. It creates an unique signature against the 'normal' patterns of humanoid life." His excuses and rationality of murder would be disturbing to the average individual, yet for Eve, it was interesting. Wrong, perhaps, but interesting nonetheless.

"Why did you ask for a pardon?" her voice was innocent as a speeder shot overtop of them.

Jase sighed wearily, leaning on the walking staff with more weight. " The more you reveal to know of me, the less I find myself capable of believing that our meeting was of happenstance." Jase narrowed his eyes, knowing his three lightsabers were all on his person, should he actually need to use them. He wasn't sure what the HRD was up to, perhaps simply gathering information for Arlyn. Or, perhaps it truly did wish to leanr more baout being human. Whatever the case, he hoped this wasn't a setup. he wouldn't reveal anything incriminating, just in case the bird was still after his blood.

" Perhaps, I have grown tired of my lifestyle? Perhaps, I felt the need to clear my conscience of killing one that I deemed to be innocent of deserving the death. Besides, when I die, I want it to be on my terms. Not because some bounty hunter manages a lucky shot, or because I have to face an executioner's needle. No, I would rather inncrease my chances of making my death....be my death, do you understand? There is also the need for... understanding. To know that at least the Alliance can look past my crimes and wish for me to assist them, it makes me feel....different."

Interesting. It was assumed that Jase Denora searched for a pardon, meeting directly with the Chief of State, because he feared the death penalty Arlyn was searching for at the time. Whether he believed Eve was here by accident or of her own purpose was irrevelant, at least at the present moment. "Death is an interesting humanoid factor. In some, it consumes their existence. For you, Denora, I suspect it has become just that: an obsession."

It wasn't the Alliance that looked past his crimes, it was Leia Organa Solo. Her will alone spared this man the execution the law required him to receive.

"Your pardon was general knowledge, something a child could find with access to the general holonet." she joked, overlooking the planet with Denora. "The Alliance has the tendacy to make people feel different, more accepted than other governments. They started as criminals themselves, perhaps considered murderers and terrorists. Now, they are viewed as heroes and a rather respected democracy. Give or take a few things." her smile was smaller than before, but her time was growing short.

She had to leave soon.

" Perhaps it has become an obssesion," Jase said, eyeing her through narrow slits. " It is a logical assumption, I suppose. After all, many become obsessed with their trades. However, I believe it is more then an obsession. More then simply a habit that i have become infatuated with. Perhaps, there is much more to it then that. Maybe, I simply am...what i am; and nothing will ever change that. It does not mean I must continue killing. Why, even now, I must kill if the Alliance asks me to, despite the terms of my pardon."

" Yes, I am sure they were thought of as criminals and traitors and many other things in their early years. Do not ask me for an opinion, I was not there. However, I do believe that evil is subjective. One race's views will invariably conflict with anothers. That is simply how it must be. My views on death will conflict with the general populace. Does this make me evil? Again, it is subjective. Perhaps I am obsessed, perhaps not. It truly depends on whose eyes you are viewing me with."

"An obsession is defined as a compulsive preoccupation with a fixed idea or an unwanted feeling or emotion, often accompanied by symptoms of anxiety. Or the domination of one's thoughts or feelings by a persistent idea, image, desire, etc." Eve stated matter of factly, "You are obsessed by the basic definition of the word." She teased, "Obsessions can be broken Denora, and your choice of a pardon was a reasonable course of action in breaking that."

She took one last glance at the night skies, the lights across the ecumenpolis plains still processed at an accelerated rate. "You may believe you are alone, cornered and trapped...but I hope I made an impression to the contrary. You are not." She retrieved a small data chip, with one of her frequencies and tossed it to Denora. It was routed to a rebellion security database, which would then reroute the message to the untraceable origin of her supercomputer, "You can use that frequency to contact me. Text or voice based." She smiled, "See you around, Jase."
