Cartos watched through the forward viewports as the swirling vortex of hyperspace elongated into starlines, then into the pinpricks of light as the fleet dropped out of hyperspace at the designated coordinates... in the middle of nowhere. "Captain, is my flagship ready?"

"The Potestatem stands fully at your command, Admiral." The reply was heartfelt, and heartwarming as the General-Admiral paced forward, looking towards the distance. He knew of his enemy's approach vector, and had adjusted his own to compensate, to begin a two-dimensional faceoff.

"Assume formation Delta. I want the Venator behind the Potestatem, ten kilometers aft. Carracks, assume flank positions with the Acclamators, one kilometer behind, and to respective sides, of the engines. Prepare fighters to deploy, all shields double-front, prime capacitors for full shielding. Await further orders."

Alexus watched with a weary eye as Cartos' fleet dropped out of hyperspace and assumed a basic triangular formation, his flagship at the front. He walked up to the forward viewport on his own command vessel, the newly constructed Pinnacle. He turned to his XO, cleared his throat and spoke in a calm and level voice.

"Prepare fleet for battle. Weapons to full power, deflector shields up. Scramble all fighter squadrons." The XO nodded and turned to relay the orders as Sienar picked up his comlink. "Sienar to fleet. Assume the following formation..." he punched it into the Battle Computer and the information was transmitted to his fleet.

"Set shields to double front and keep damage control teams ready. Standby for further instructions."

Cartos watched as Seinar's fleet droppd, and smiled to himself. The rank formation was the first learned... and also one of the weakest. "Acclamator groups 2, 3, 5, and 6, peel off from main formation and assume flank speed, circle around and hit the ends of those Carrack lines. Deploy 10 squads of TIE Interdictors and 20 TIE Inerceptors, same delta formation. Prime proton torpedoes."

Cartos turned to his bridge crew. "Extend forward shields, deploy one squadron of TIE Vanguards. Three each will plant sensor beacons on the backs of the Carrack lines, giving our Acclamators a runup point. The remaining six, adjust sensors for fighters, I want to know as soon as they begin deploying. TIE Interdictors, tie in with TIE-V-007-012 and commence firing as soon as your firing solutions are plotted."

The Carracks and Acclamators immediately shifted in response, their beefy sublight drives causing them to lurch forward. The weapons displays began flashing yellow, then red as soon as the assault frigates were in position, where a barrage of emerald fire began pouring from the ships, on the underprotected flanks of the Carrack line.

The enemy admiral was fast. Sienar's forces had only just assumed formation when Cartos' Acclamators began an attempt to whip around his flanks. Alexus' Carracks on the far left and right took the assault on their half shielded sides, and shuddered from the impacts of dozens of powerful turbolaser blasts. He had to move fast to save them.

"All Carrack cruisers," he barked into the comlink, "Move directly down five hundred metres, maximum speed. Star Destroyers, prepare to fire all side batteries at the enemy Acclamators as soon as they present themselves." He turned to the fighter coordination officer.

"He's committing 30 squads sir," the officer said as calmly as he could, "Seems to be 20 interceptor and 10 of something I've never seen before."

Sienar nodded. "Deploy forty of our own TIE interceptor squads and have them standby to react to an enemy fighter attack. All Acclamators, begin enemy supression barrage, try and herd those TIEs into ours. My ship will commence full attack on the enemy flag. Execute."

Alexus leant on the situation board tensely as his Carracks shifted downward. As soon as they had the barest firing solution the port and starboard guns on his Imperators began a stream of deadly turbolaser fire, the heavy turrets' blasts smacking into the reinforced shields of the Acclamators. The Pinnacle shuddered as her own batteries sprang into life, and scarlet bolts filled the space ahead of them as the assault frigates opened up, trying to generate as much flak as possible and prevent frontal fighter assaults.

"It's not over yet," Alexus announced to the bridge crew, but he knew, deep down, that victory was impossible.

The TIE Vanguards began plotting their firing solutions as the Carrack-class light cruisers began priming their point-defense systems, the Acclamator-IIs already plotting flak bursts. The fighters, though, seemed content to wait for the incoming storm. More TIE Intercepters poured from the hangars of the Acclamator-IIs, in accordance with Cartos' previous orders, until the bombers and Interceptors were in perfect formations.

The emerald blasts from Acclamator-II Assault Frigates began ripping into the light cruisers' shields. The sparkling energy barriers held for a moment, but began collapsing under the might of the furious barrage. Cartos watched from the bridge of the Potestatem, a smile creasing his lips as his flank attack began tearing his opponent's Carracks apart.

"Carrack cruisers, close up formation, tap into TIE Vanguard target locks and prepare for incoming fighters. Acclamator groups 1 and 4, close up formation and begin your assault. Venator, deploy your fighters in a Marg Sabl closure, set up a screen before the Potestatem. Acclamators, as soon as you are in range, open up on the flanking vessels."

Alexus watched as Cartos reorganised his ships for what would be a final assault. All he could hope to do was cause as much damage as possible before they were forced to capitulate.

"Star Destroyers, continue to target those Acclamators on our left and right," he ordered, "Use the batteries on the opposite face to the Acclamators to target the enemy flagship. Acclamators will cease suppression fire and join my ship in the attack on the enemy flagship. Launch all remaining fighters and prepare for close in defence." He checked the board to see that the constant blasts of twenty heavy turbolasers on each attacking Acclamator was having an effect - their shields began to buckle, but at the same time two (was that how many were being attacked?) of Sienar's Carracks were shredded by the the powerful ships' attacks.

He looked up at the enemy's flagship. How long would he have to pummel it with the Pinnacle's hundred and forty forward weapons, now joined by his Acclamators? How strong were those shields?
