--NBC News--

Famous newcaster Katasha Naplinsky turns to the camera and flashes a winning smile. "Hello, and welcome to the NBC News at Six. I'm Katasha Naplinsky," the view switches to an older, male newscaster.

"And I'm Mandrew Aar. Top stories tonight -"

Intergalactic News

"In a stunning move, the Galactic Empire has launched a massive attack on Thyferra, Geonosis, and oddly enough, Korriban. Rebel forces in the area are on full alert. The Thyferran force seems prepared to wait for the Empire to move first, while the 'Lady' Pallanen of Geonosis has announced her intention for her people to fight to the death. What some Nespis citizens are referring to as 'The Krieg' seems to be heating up.

We have Alliance Grand General Carlist Rieekan on the link right now via Hyperlight link. General Rieekan, can you hear us?"

The view switches to the craggy and worn face of Carlist Rieekan. "Loud and clear."

"Hello, General Rieekan. You'll obviously have a lot to do, so we'll keep this short. The Empire has finally made the first move in what looks to be a truly galactic conflict - what's your reaction?"

"Well, I am trully not surprised by this move by the Empire," replies the General, "This only proves once again that they are not true to their word, and will break any oath or commitment to serve their own interests."

"It seems you truly are ideologically opposed to your enemies, General. Is that same mood present in your fellow Alliance officers?"

"Obviously I cannot know exactly what my fellow officers believe, however that is generally the impression that I have recieved from them."

"So, to wrap up," says Naplinsky, "who do you think will come out best in this war, and why?"

"Well, not to be biased, but I believe that the Alliance will prevail. The Empire have ultimately shown themselves to be untrustworthy and dishonest by their actions. While I do not anticipate an easy fight, I do believe in the Alliance's chances to successfully resist and to gather support among the other peoples of the galaxy, and ultimately defeat Vader and his dictatorial regime."

"Thank you, General," says Aar, "We'll let you get back to your war." The screen winks out. "Next, we'll be talking to a man from the other side, of a position similar to the General's in that he commands an entire arm of a military service - Grand Marshal Socra of the Empire. But first, the weather."

The screen flicks on again, to show an old-looking man who nonetheless seems full of vigour. "Grand Marshal, thank you for agreeing to talk to us for a moment."

"Not a problem."

"Your government's armed forces have finally opened up hostilities in the war, sending fleets to several key Alliance worlds; what's your reaction?"

"The war was inevitable - the Alliance's hostility towards Imperial personel both on the Galactic Holonet as well as during the attempted negotiations left no room for any other course of action. The Empire has changed, but no government can withstand such blows of words, words though they may be, without recourse."

"So, you're attacking them because they insulted you? Or are there other reasons?"

"There are several reasons. The insults were simply the final straw that broke the bantha's back."

"Right. Both sides have their respective strengths - yours being numerical strength and qualitative edge in some key fields. Who do you think will come out on top?"

"Asking me who is going to come out on top is like asking a jawa who owns a particular speeder. The Empire has already struck first, and the Rebels mount, in my professional opinion, a pathetic defense against us. One simply needs to look to the Galactic Communications to see that all the Rebellion is good at is conjecture, hearsay, and mudslinging."

"Do you think they'll be capable of a turnaround?"

"An interesting choice of words, capable. I believe the Rebellion will exhaust their resources trying to keep up with us, and in the end be run ragged in circles before finally admitting defeat."

"The last galactic civil war, they were fighting for a cause they were willing to die for. That is what made them so effective. Now, they are fighting because it is "cool" to be against the 'big bad Galactic Empire.' As soon as the new regime sees what it is like to fight an enemy that is not oppressing the entire galaxy, they will fold quickly."

"Thank you, Marshal."

"Always a pleasure."

Republic News

Naplinsky turns back to the camera. "Marshal Socra, there. Next on NBC News, internal affairs.

Of course, the dominant issue right now in Nespis affairs is the war with Devaron. The declaration of war recently, and the reasons laid out before the people of the Republic have been met with enthusiasm in the more politically active members of society, and condemnation from a small minority in the Teyr Nationalist Party, who believe the Republic should by allying the Devaron Sovreignity and attacking the Rebel Alliance.

The small fleet sent in a probing attack on Vulvarch has just arrived, and is believed to already be pulling out in order to gather more forces for a second push. We have Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery with us, commander of Army Group A, live from Teyr. Marshal, what's your view?

We're experiencing some technical difficulties right now, and we've lost the link. We'll get back to the interview in just a moment."

-Link Reestablished-

"Well my view on the situation is that the attack was initially intended to be an invasion of Vulvarch, but that Admiral Rommel grossly underestimated the defenses. This demonstrates his lack of organisational skills, in that he did not bother to send a reconaissance party."

"Are you suggesting that the attack was never intended to be a probe?" replies Naplinsky, "Wouldn't the lack of troop transports suggest otherwise?"

"It would to someone not well educated in military tactics. However a commander does not wish to burden himself with protecting transports. A defensive mindset is ultimately self defeating. It is more likely he would have intended to call on the transports once the upper atmosphere was secured. So yes, I am suggesting it was not initially intended to be a probe. At least, until the force arrived at Vulvarch." He laughs humourlessly.

"So, what do you think the next move will be, and what do you think it should be?"

"Well, I would rather not speculate on that. It would only serve to undermine our goals of defeating the Devaron Sovereignty, if my speculation was to prove correct."

Aar pipes up. "Are you confident of the Republic's victory, or do you think it will end up a stalemate?"

"Well, Rommel has yet to prove himself worthy of leading the attack. But in the end, I believe the Republic will be victorious, yes."

"Thank you for your time."

"Thank you."

"Next up - Music News," says Aar, "after this trailer for the fifty-fourth season of the ever-popular Professor Why, where the Professor faces his dreaded enemy, the Kaleks. See you soon."

Financial News

"And now, a very interesting news item that we've been forced to file under Financial News, though it could go under any category," says Aar.

"That's right, Mandrew," replies Naplinsky, "The line of the Fords has revealed to have not died out after the Imperial/DRWP war. The man who commanded the third largest government in the Galaxy, the largest armies, the largest fleets, is dead. But his brother, Stephen Ford II, lives on." The screen on the wall to the left of the newscasters flickers into life to reveal the man himself." Mr Ford, thank you for speaking to us."

"I always make time for my media colleagues. Thank you for giving me the oppertunity to talk to you and your viewers."

"Well, Mr Ford, you seem to have shocked a lot of people when you unveiled your new company, and indeed, your existence at all. What would you say to all those who are worried you could continue your brother's legacy?"

"It seems that my family reputation is preceeding me. I did not condone my brothers actions, nor did I publicly protest against them. Indeed my brother caused some trouble in his later years, but I am not here to continue his legacy."

"I'm sure that news will cheer up some Supreme Moffs out there." All present give a polite titter of laughter.

"Well," replies Ford, amused, "my brother did have a tendency to tread on people's toes, but such is the path on the ladder of success."

"As we've seen before. So, tell us a little about your latest venture. Omicron or something, is that right?"

"Omicron-Xi," interjects Aar.

Naplinsky smiles yet again. It's been suggested she has lessons. "Oh, that's right."

Ford nods. "Yes, Omicron-Xi. My new company, Omicron-Xi is a corporation that specialises in mining, weapons technology and our new field... Cybernetics."

"Cybernetics? I'm sure the Cybus Industries board of directors will be unhappy that they have some competition at last!"

Aar chuckles. "What do you think makes your new corporation have an edge over others?" he asks.

"As you are no doubt aware," says Ford, "the LAMBDA Corporation did some research into the cybernetics field."

The two newcasters look confused. They decide to busk it.

"Um," says Naplinsky, looking to her right and making angry motions with her eyebrows. "Yes."

"Before it ceased to be," says Aar.

Awkward silence.

"So, let's return to that earlier question before we look more ignorant," Naplinsky says, and chuckles. "What do you think makes your new corporation have an edge over others?"

"Due to the research LAMBDA conducted, we have developed new technologies in the field which give us an edge in the consumer market. Technologies that were only dreamable years ago, but now can be reality."

"I don't suppose you can give any details?"

"The details of these technologies are classified. But I can say for certain, not many individuals have an eye with a zoom function... or can tune into local music stations with the power of thought."

Silence. Naplinsky looks confused for a second.

"Wow," says Aar. He looks up at something offscreen. "Well, that's all we have time for," he says, turbing back to Ford, "Thanks for talking to us, Mr Ford, and good luck with your new company."

"Thank you both for having me. You will not regret it." Ford grins a grin of pure malice at the camera. The screen fades out.

Aar turns to look offscreen again. "I look like a f***ing idiot here."

Next on the NBC, Medics, in which Ghurttth faces a blood feud with an asteroid mining colony after he mistakenly removes their leader's leg, right after these advertisements.

Exclusive Interview
Luke Skywalker

"Mr Skywalker, thank you for joining us... what's your title now?"

"After looking through Artoo's memory banks I have learned of the title of Grand Master, which was apparently used by Master Yoda of the Old Jedi Order. Since I'm the head of the New Jedi Order I thought it'd be appropriate."

"Sounds impressive."

"Means more responsibility, mainly."

"So, why don't you tell us a little about the League of Free Worlds. What do you stand for? What are your goals?"

"Basically, we're sick of the fighting. I personally don't want to bring up my children... child... in a galaxy of war. So if I can create a little place where war just isn't always gonna be there then that's my goal."

"That sounds like an admirable goal."

"A seemingly impossible one with my sister fighting on one side of this new conflict. I'll probably be dragged into this one as well."

"Ah, yes, your sister. You both fought in the GCW, is that right?"

"You must have seen some terrible things back then."

Seen and done, yes. And yet they still call me a farmboy."

"Because you grew up on a moisture farm?"

"Probably because I had the niave mentality back then. Thinking that everything could be put right, the good side always wins et cetera. Heck I'm not even sure there is a 'good' side in this conflict. Back in the GCW all I knew was the Empire was evil and the Rebellion was good. Now I'm not so sure."

"It always comes down to shades of grey, doesn't it? If I recall, Mandrew fought back then."

"Yeah, B-wing pilot."

"So, back on topic; what's your reaction to the fresh conflict that's broken out?"

"Well, I'm certainly surprised that Leia was the one to declare it. The Empire appears to be making great strides to be less... Palpatine-esque."

"That's what many people have been saying... including the two trillion-plus Imperial citizens out there."

"Indeed, however, it is impossible to say that all of Palpatine's influence has left the Empire, as evident in those that were to have killed Admiral Antilles."

"How would you respond to allegations that this is an attempt at a Jedi-oriented oligarchy?"

"I'd probably say that, since I'm the only Jedi in a position of political power within the League, these allegations are unfounded and unwarranted."

"Well, I'm afraid that's all we've got time for today. Thank you, Master Skywalker."

"You're welcome."

"I'm Mandrew Aar."

"And I'm Katasha Naplinsky. Good night."

Special Government Announcement

Mandrew Aar and Katasha Naplinsky turn to the camera as the news studio lights fade on. The NBC jingle plays. Naplinsky smiles, and begins to speak.

"Stunning news in Nespis today," she begins, "As Grand Admiral Erwin Rommel seizes power in a shock-" she places her hand to her earpiece, looks to the left, and nods. "Sorry. As Grand Admiral Erwin Rommel is forced to assume the position of Autocrat."

"With the increase of Mafia and terrorist activity reported by Rommel since the previous autocrat, Velora Antana, rose to power, she was forced to remain in a secure area and use Admiral Rommel as a proxy. Since then, however, Antana has escaped. Ad- Autocrat Rommel joins us now," Mandrew says.

The image of Rommel fades into view, the Reichstag, empty and forlorn, behind him. "Hello," he says.

"What do you have to say about recent events?" asks Aar.

"Clearly," Rommel replies, "This is a catastrophe. Poor Velora's mental health had begun to decline nearly as soon as she became Autocrat, and her orders were becoming more and more erratic. She's probably escaped to the treachorous Alliance, along with several lackeys. If any loyal citizen sees these men, they are to report their position to the new Armed Police, who will assist any way they can: Bernard Montgomery, Captain Soban of the Nineteenth Squadron, and Jahan Stresemann."

"Stresemann?"

"Yes, you heard me. Our ex-President, the puppet of the Senate, the October Traitor. He's probably assisting Antana's foul crusade right now. All citizens must trust me in this difficult time - order will be restored."
