As Avaritus neared the site where the Jedi had landed, he could sense the man's anxiety, and confusion. He wasn't sure he made the right choice in coming, but Avaritus would convince him otherwise. After a minute, he had made it to the landing site, the Jedi was standing in the sand, arms crossed looking rather displeased. Avaritus allowed himself a small smile, before stepping out of the speeder he had taken. He hoped no one would find him missing, or begin a serious search for the Jedi's starfighter. He was currently hiding his presence in the force, so the Jedi wouldn't be able to detect his identity through that, although the saber at his side would definatly give it away.

Standing 10 feet away, Avaritus looked at the man, and said, "Good, you came. What is your name, Jedi?"

Salo studied the Sith that stood before him, with slight hesitation, he answered the question, "Salo." The young Knight didn't know for sure what were to happen. Salo only knew that he'd probably have to fight, and that didn't bother him one bit. A slight wind blew some of the sand up, Salo's black Jedi robe swayed as he stood awaiting what would befall him.

Avaritus sensed it. Preparation, anticipation for a battle. The man wouldn't admit to himself why he came. No matter, Avaritus would make him see why. Would make him see the stupidity of the Jedi.

Folding his arms, he said, "Salo... Why are you so eager to charge to your death?" Avaritus sensed a spike in the man's anger, and could feel the man tense, readying himself. "Good, let your anger flow through you, let it strengthen you," said Avaritus, still standing with his arms folded. "You've forgotten the reason you've came already, have you?"

The man made like he was going to reply, and Avaritus cut him off. "You knew who it was who sent that message, and you knew what I wanted, even as you left your Jedi friends. You want power. Join me, Salo, and I can grant you the power your seek."

Salo didn't know what he wanted anymore. He originally thought he was going to kill a Sith. He thought maybe it'd make Master Yoogle proud. But would it really? Now that he thought about it, Yoogle always told him not to rush into battle, yet battle was the only thing that made being a Jedi fun. And the power... He had a chance to attain even more.

And maybe even be known throughout the universe. Or feared. Either way, Salo liked the idea of everyone knowing his name, but... Is that really what he wanted.

He couldn't make up his mind, his eyes shut tight as he tried to think, but he couldn't. He then glared at the Sith in front of him. "Fight me first," Salo said as he threw his cloak off and called his lightsaber to his hand. He didn't turn it on yet though, he had to get an answer first.

Avaritus sighed, and said, "As you wish. I can't understand why you Jedi are so eager to get injured." With that, Avaritus unclipped his lightsaber from his belt, with his left hand, and called upon the Force's full power, allowing the power to flow through him, and around him. It was as much show, as it was preparing himself. The Jedi would understand that he was in over his head, now.

Even then, Avaritus did not activate his saber, even as he launched himself off of his right foot, bringing the hilt in close to his chest for a sweeping strike. At 3 feet away, Salo activated his blade, and just managed to deflect Avaritus' blow, Avaritus disengaged, pushing his saber hard against the other's and leaping back, shutting off his saber again. He had been practicing this form for a year. Trakata was very useful, and served many purposes, but if used incorrectly, would get the user killed before he knew what hit him.

Charging back in again, Avaritus sent a flurry of strikes at the Jedi, disengaging his saber every time he didn't need it. He was slowly, but surely wearing the Jedi down with each strike. Avaritus then let up slightly, and switched to Soresu, wanting to see what the man was capable of in the offensive role.

This hadn't started out well. The Sith used a form that Salo had never even heard of, and it was difficult to find out how to deal with it. But now the Sith had taken on the Soresu form.

Fine, you wanna play, Salo thought. "Then let's play," he whispered as he charged at the Sith and attacked furiously. Avaritus blocked every attack, but that didn't faze Salo, he continued to spin his lightsaber and clash every second. He was forcing the Sith back, which was how Salo liked it, he felt he always had to have the upper hand.

Salo delivered a quick flurry of consecutive attacks before he jumped up over the Sith's head, deflecting the fiery red blade as he landed and sent a surge of the force at the Sith. Avaritus was pushed back a few feet, but managed to sustain his balance. Salo was already on the offensive again, attacking quickly and swiftly, until Avaritus found a chance and used the force to aid him in kicking Salo backwards into the air.

The Jedi Knight backflipped and landed on his feet, the Sith didn't move, nor did Salo. They each entered their current form's stance, each waiting for the other to make the next move. But who would it be?

Avaritus stood, lightsaber activated, and smiled. The man used Form V, and two different variations, at that. He could be a great Sith if trained correctly. Avaritus needed to show him, however, that he was better in that form than he was.

He didn't see the need to force the opponent into the attacking move, so Avaritus launched at Salo, using Djem So. The two's blades met, and clashed, each blade moving faster, and faster, until one could no longer distinguish that it was a lightsaber being used to create the patterns of the color.

They locked blades a number of times, and did again, for the fourth. Avaritus looked at the man, and said, "Why do you continue to fight? The Galaxy's great hero's are nearly dead! Solo captured, Skywalker dead! It's only a matter of time before Yoogle, and his band of screwups gets theirs!"

The two kept at it, for more than three minutes, but Avaritus could tell he was wearing Salo down, after another thirty seconds, he saw it. An opening, that kept appearing after a few seconds. Running through another set of attacks, Avaritus saw it again, and went for it. The battle was over in seconds, with Avaritus turned away from Salo, lightsaber down to his side. The sound of two objects dropping to the sand reached his ears, before the sickening smell of burnt flesh did.

Avaritus turned around, and said quickly, before Salo could pass out, "What say you, Salo? Will you be my apprentice?"

It was hard to believe he was beaten so quickly, but Salo hadn't known what he got himself into. He's arrogant at times and thinks no one can get in his way, he hasn't lost a battle in a long time.

Salo was on his knees and held on to conciousness as he clutched his arm and stared at his severed right hand on the ground with empty eyes. He could join the Sith right now, he could get more power, maybe even enough to be the more powerful one later on. That's what Salo wanted, he wanted power, he wanted to be strong. He wanted to be feared.

Salo finally looked up at Avaritus with a determination in his eyes. While he loathed the Sith for defeating him, Salo respected his power. He answered, "Fine. I will," before the rest of his body fell to the desert sand, unconcious.

Avaritus smiled to himself, as he grabbed Salo, and his lightsaber. Slipping both his, and Salo's lightsabers in his tunic, Avaritus immersed himself in the force, and sent a message to Jax.

I'm bringing the Jedi in. Prepare a private critical care unit.

With that, Avaritus loaded the Jedi into his speeder, and set off towards the facility. It would take a bit, but Avaritus would have to alter a few memories when he got there, to conceal his presence, and the Jedi's.

"You need to strike faster," said Avartius, lightsaber ignited, and to his side.

The two had been at it for more than an hour, and the training was just begining. He would teach Salo everything he knew about lightsaber combat, and more. Then they would move onto the Force.

Today, they were working on Makashi. A form that utilized fast strikes, and precise cuts. So far, Salo was learning at a quicker pace than he had hoped. If he kept this up, he'd be a great Sith lord indeed.

Positioning his saber to a soresu stance, Avaritus said, "Again."

It was hard to learn a new fighting style, Salo had always stuck to using the form he's used for most of his life. Form V has always been his way of fighting, and it normally worked well for him. But now that he was defeated, it showed him that maybe he should learn some new forms. It leads to surprising your opponent, and that could be just what Salo needed.

And it would start with Form II. Makashi, a form perfect for a Sith that always fought one on one.

Salo approached Avaritus with caution now, instead of charging in like he did last time. He may be irrational at times, but he still learns from his mistakes. He closed the gap in between him and Avaritus and slashed once, only to have his blue flaring blade deflected. Salo then continued to deliver a flurry of fast consecutive attacks. Each time his blade was deflected, but of course, he wasn't planning to get through any defense now. He couldn't do it with his original form, so he definitely couldn't do it with a new, unfamiliar form. But he'd learn. And he'd become so powerful that he would get past those defenses. It was just a matter of time.

Avaritus continued for a while using Soresu, gauging his apprentice's proficiency in the form. He was passable, even only after a few hours of training, but he wouldn't get through Avaritus' defense any time soon.

Avaritus let the battle continue for a bit longer, and then slid in to the man's guard, and positioned his blade at his neck. He held it there for a few seconds, then deactivated it, and said, "You need to anticipate your opponent's moves better, you need to become faster. You're not using the Force to your full potential."

Putting his lightsaber away, and making for the speeder, he said, "We're done for the day. Tommorow we begin training as Soverign Protectors. Training begins at 0500. Make sure you're ready."

Jax opened his eyes to take in the sight of the Yinchorri sunrise. He had sat meditating with six polished adegan crystals whirling around him like electrons around an atom. His legs were hooked in a full lotus position, his back straight, his body about a half meter above the ground. He had been this way for a solid week, bringing his thoughts and impulses under control.

He had realized then that he was becoming too passionate, too anxious for blood, and that he needed to distance himself from the tensions of the tenuous ceasefire. He had retreated to the peak of ShadaRang for his leave of absence, and only a single light speeder, the crystals, and two sets of light combat robes. He extended his legs underneath him and let the Force settle him to the ground, then began to change into the fresh set of robes for his return to Yinchorri command. The crystals coalesced into three sets of two, then slid into the saddlebags of his speeder as he primed the thrusters for the return trip.

He looked over the sunrise once more, a smile touching his lips and tightening a battle scar on his left cheek before he sat on the vehicle, kicking it to life. With a high-pitched repulsor whine it kicked off to the dark side of Yinchorr, and towards the lone facility that graced the planet. He approached it fast, and began weaving through the surface defense networks as streaks of green light aimed for him. He would hear from the techs that he was showing off again, and that it needed two hours to recalibrate the blasters after they burned out. But, such was existence.

He strode into the facility and immediately towards the landing fields. He seized a commlink from a nearby stormtrooper’s belt and thumbed it on, his voice a little hoarse from disuse but still filled with authority. “Air Control, signal transport fleet 1 and have them prime their hyperdrives, setting course for Coruscant. Dispatch a superiority force to dock with the vessels – they will be used to rotate the standard defense compliment there. Have my armor and weapons ready for me when I disembark. Jax out.”

He lifted it on a whisper of the Force and returned it to the stormtrooper’s belt before turning towards the dark shape next to him, the shape of his TIE Defender. The cockpit opened, and Jax backflipped into the pilots seat before kicking off for the waiting transport fleet. His nerves were smooth, hand steady, and his mind cleared for the inevitable eruption.
