So, basically... you guys want a new game (except the two people whose money I've converted already :p). But what kind? SW again? AU? Different setting but similar game setup (character-driven with some faction mechanics)?

I wouldn't mind, honestly, using the 'backstory' post from VII to start a new AU game, with a character driven setup with faction mechanics that are more than 'I have this many ships and you have that many ships' Actual governments would be fun to play too...

So, same basic model as VII/I (character-driven with functional factions)... but any universe? :p

I'd prefer SW personally, but Star Trek could work if it were set after the new movie we'd have more to work with.

I remember when I first started back in VII, I had little to no idea how to RP, what to expect. I've grown attached to my characters, the game, and I've come to like and respect alot of people here so there's no way in hell that I'd want it to simply disappear.

Though as Luke said, I just can't get excited for Star Wars anymore. I just can't do it.

But I also don't want to ditch my characters. I've done alot with them and I want to keep them going... :(

Well, ironically enough, I didn't vote when I started this thread, because I honestly didn't know what I thought. Shame on me for not making a poll option that was exactly what I wanted. :p

I too have an attachment to VIII. I think everyone here has said they do. But, while the nostalgia is great to think about, to think about all the incredible times we've had here, I honestly don't see a way to continue this as it is right now. So, I voted for the "Close SWVIII and start a new RPG under a new name, timeline and/or setting" option.

However, I don't want to ditch everything. Moff and I have talked about closing VIII for an extended period of time, and possibly bring it back later. Maybe we can. Maybe the project will get ditched. I don't know. But, I think we can all agree that our ~4 years of work shouldn't be completely and abruptly ended. I liked Alex's suggestion - to tie off all character plotlines - but that wouldn't be good if we decided, later on, to continue.

So, I think the poll has been decided rather conclusively to close SWVIII - at least for now. I haven't talked to the rest of CMAC yet, but I say we close off all character plotlines... but, I wouldn't suggest killing your character, or predicting their future, or anything like that, because maybe one day, God willing, we'll revisit this setting - unless you want to kill particular characters.

I'm so tired of Star Wars. I've been continuously RPing Star Wars in person, online, and otherwise for over 10 years, and I'm burned out. I hope this is a passing thing, but after watching Star Trek, BSG, Firefly, and other Sci-Fi stories, I've realized there's so much more out there to explore. I need a break from Star Wars. But, at the same time, I have so many characters I love from RPs I've been in, and I want to come back to them, at least some day. Whether that be as SWVIII or as another SW RPG in the future, I think it will happen - but for now, perhaps we should look away from Star Wars, unless a sizable number of people want to have an SW RPG (this will be determined in another thread soon to be posted).

If everyone agrees with the general premise of this post, I'll open another poll thread to determine the next RPG we'll be hosting (instead of talking about it in here).

Something new. Not SW. Hell, maybe even the same characters if we want, but we need to mix it up. I really find the whole SW theme becoming a little predicable, and the only way to break away from it is to break the 'cannon' version considerably, which seems to urk some people. We need something less complex that we can shape as our own. There are plenty of subjects. Firefly/Serenity, Halo, Mass Effect, the list goes on. You guys are awesome to hang out with, which is why I think I've stuck around. If we find something new to do, and make it our own, it'll be great.

First of all, let me say that I think we've hit a roadblock with this game and instead of letting it suffer, we should shut it down while it still has some life left to it. Like Cray said, maybe we'll return to it at some point, but for now I think it's time to move on.

As for our next game, I'm a Star Wars geek and will always be a Star Wars geek. With that said, I would prefer to have a Star Wars game. I can't really get excited for other franchises, but I won't be opposed to it if you guys vote to go that route. If that's the case, it's what the community wants and I can't go against that. Of course, that also means I may not return to play if it's another franchise, but that all depends on what it is. We'll have to wait and see.

I would also like to see it be Star Wars, but I wouldn't mind branching out and trying something new.

Maybe even a different time line, like how Vong and Clone Wars were the same universe, but yet, a completely different perspective.

I also wouldn't mind if factions were broken, that divided us greatly.

That's one idea.

Same here. As Cray said, we're loathe to simply scuttle the ship entirely. But trying a massive refit while the game is in progress... and even in trouble at the time... that may have been a mistake. And when I say "that may have been," I mean "in my personal opinion, it was..." :p

To be honest, the AU timeline has been Star Wars to me for a long time. I became disillusioned long ago.

Same. And I have no intentions of stuffing Ams and Shy into the "Memories" folder to collect dust, either. But maybe the SW people could use a break, or a change of scenery.

Indeed. Star Wars has gotten to be as rough as Trek in terms of entrenched mythos and the like. Perhaps worse now, since the new movie opened up entirely new avenues free of the restraints of TOS, TNG, DS9, and Voyager whereas SW canon is expanding every day.

I think a new universe might be a nice change of pace... as long as it's not one from a game. >_>

Han generally said what I'm feeling, but she's more dedicated to it. We should probably be maintaining an SW RPG... but, I'm kind of the reverse. I don't know what part I'd have in it.

Anyway, let me post another poll. Please continue the discussion in there. I'll leave this thread open for any stragglers that didn't vote or post yet, but let's move the discussion of the next game over there.
