The sight of my ship against the night sky sent shivers up my spine...the immense carrier was on the ground, loading up the troops and preparing to lift off again. This time we were heading to Kuat...for something big.

As I got to the bridge, I was met with salutes from every crew member. "At ease" I said. "Captain, are we ready to go?"
"Yes sir, all systems at full readiness, the ship and crew are at your command."

"Very good Captain, take us out of the atmosphere, we're heading to Kuat. General Scyntor has a surprise for us."
He raised an eyebrow "What is it?"

I smiled slightly, "The future."

As the ship exited the atmosphere, I felt relieved, I had never liked Coruscant, too congested, too much in decay...but in space I felt free.
While the blue and white of hyperspace enveloped the ship I could only wonder how the crew would react when they saw what was in store for them.

The Black Star is heading for Kuat.

As the ship exited hyperspace I looked around. There were the massive shipyards I had heard of, they weere servicing Star Destroyers of various types. This was where we would become known, this is where our future begins.

I opened the ship's comm, "Officers and soldiers of the Black Star, we are here at Kuat...we are here to start on a new path, one greater than we have ever set foot upon. Your mettle will be tested, you will face trials and tribulations.
I have faith in you all, you have all been trained in the ways of the Mandalore and you have excelled any expectations I had. I know you will do well. You are the Imperial Marines, you are among the best the Empire has to offer...and I would go as far to say that you are the new generation of Mandalorians. Make me proud, assemble with full gear in staging areas ASAP, we're leaving the ship for something better."

These men were the finest soldiers I had ever seen...I would go far enough to call them warriors. When they see what is in store, they will get quite a shock.

"Captain, move us closer to Mjolnir, the surprise is over with that group of warships" I indicted a gathering of Venators and Acclamators.

As the ship got closer, the crew saw it, a long dagger of grey and black across space itself, large enough to frighten anyone who didn't know what it was. Brimming with Turbolasers and Ion Cannons was an Executor class Star Dreadnaught...the Genesis...our new ship.

"Everyone, this is the surprise, this is the new beginning, this is our ship. All officers, enlisted men, and troopers are to begin transferring to the Genesis immediately."

All personel on the Black Star are heading to the Genesis.

Black Star has been dispatched to a set of pre-determined coordinates.

Skirata felt good that he was back aboard a familiar ship, his old ship. Officers saluted when he exited the Alliance shuttle, some with concerned faces, no doubt concerned at the very sight of the Alliance shuttle. There was one however, one officer who thought it wise to question as to why there was a civilian on board, "You there, hold it." as he directed two troopers towards Ryoko.

Skirata noticed the man's rank, a Captain. This guy was his replacement apparently since Kal transferred to the Genesis so far back. "Stand down soldiers, she is a guest of the Imperial Navy. I'd expect you to treat her with some respect." The Captain hesitated, as did the troopers, but they snapped quick salutes and did as he ordered. The Captain seemed to remember something and gave Kal a report then saluted him again, Kal looked the thing over skimming it. He then removed two of his code cylinders, one from each side of his rank bars. He was now a full Admiral.

"Captain, we're to head back to Carida immediately, it's about time I got back to the Genesis." The Captain cleared his throat, "The Genesis is at Iridonia Admiral, it was needed for an operation."

Kal nodded, "To Iridonia then." He wondered what kind of operation would require his ship, but he expected General Scyntor had good reasons for using it, he trusted Scyntor after all. Not many people in the Empire had earned Kal's trust, very few in fact. The Captain whistled and two navy personnel came to assist the lady with her bags and showed both her and Kal to their cabin.

The Black Star is heading to Iridonia.

She turned in his arms, the lady with whom he'd sworn the rest of his days to love and protect. She was so peaceful lying there with him, so serene.
Kal was almost to the point of disbelief really. Not about her no...but the fact that the struggles they'd been through almost constantly for the past two months were over.
He grimaced as he remembered the harrowing battles on the rim. The Consortium, the Lucifer, the loss of the HIMS Harbinger...and the death of Kal's once trusted comrade, Jason Solomon. Traitorous bastard Kal thought, it's one thing to betray an oath of loyalty, your comrades and your Empire...but what Solomon had done went way lower.

He kidnapped, tortured, and physically assaulted the one woman Kal had ever loved. Worse even was that she was not the real target...Solomon attacked her to get to Kal, to hurt him and hurt him badly.

Solomon soon learned that this decision, was a very big mistake. Many people who haven't yet been swayed by stereotypes and propaganda will know, that a true Mandalorian's priorities lie in his or her family and loved ones. Not credits, or bloodlust...family. 'Twas the thing that his father constantly hammered into him as a child.
Yes, he remembered the battles as if they just happened yesterday...

***

Fighters soared through space as missiles and turbolasers crisscrossed towards opposing capital ships. Kal's strike force had harassed and pursued the Zann Consortium battleship Lucifer to a desolate system in the outer rim. The heavily upgraded Lucrehulk battleship was once a threatening vessel, almost as powerful as an Akula but with a cloaking device and the ability to fire all of her weapons while cloaked.
An impressive first strike weapon...until she met the Harbinger. The Harbinger was the Imperial counterpart so to speak, an immense battleship who's primary weapon was a four kilometer magnetic rail cannon that ran along the ship's spine.

In essence, the Imperial sledgehammer to the Consortium's poisoned dagger.

The Harbinger was the main reason we we no longer threatened by the Lucifer, the rail cannon had hammered the ship's shields, torn gaping holes into their armored hull, and shredded the internal structure. Lucifer's weapons effectiveness near nill, shields nonexistent, and with no friendly ports nearby...

She was as good as dead. But we were out for blood...no mercy for the traitors, or those that harbored them.

Our long guns continued to fire, scoring many hits on the Consortium vessel, but still she persisted and carried on to a rogue planet in the star system. "Load torpedo tubes, prepare to fire on my command." The killing blow Kal thought, Lucifer's armor and hull were heavily compromised, easy enough to land a hit in an exposed area now thanks to the Harbinger. "Steady...steady...what the frak is she doing?"

The Lucifer turned to face her opponents. The Harbinger in particular. Then she started to accelerate.

"An energy buildup in enemy ship's reactor sir...she's initiating a jump?!" Explosions rippled across the exterior of the Lucifer's rear compartments, clearly the stress and strain were becoming too much to handle.
The Harbinger attempted to evade the oncoming ship, but to little avail. In an instant the near crippled warship blasted forth with incredible speed and slammed into the Harbinger.

The crews of Kal's ships looked on in horror as the Harbinger was engulfed in fire as the Lucifer exploded around her, moments later a second and much larger explosion was both seen and felt throughout the strike force. Kal closed his eyes and lowered his head in mourning for the loss.
Over one hundred and twenty thousand people...gone...just like that. "By the Emperor..." Kal uttered.

"Sir, I'm reading dozens of smaller craft heading to the planet, looks like gunships and escape pods." Kal clenched his teeth, it wasn't over yet. "Get two full companies of Marines ready to drop in five minutes, it's time we end this."

To be continued of course...

The surface of the planet was beautiful, verdant green plains, rolling hills with scenic views, lush forests...it was almost a paradise...until a series of explosions shattered the illusion. "Sir we're taking AA fire from the surface, dug in emplacements." Motherfrakker, Kal thought, they know they're beaten, why do they persist? "Can you keep her in the air pilot?"
"Yes sir, the fire's heavy, but sloppy. I'll get us through." The group of Imperial gunships soared through the sky towards their objective; the main landing site of the Lucifer survivors. "Just keep going pilot, the strike force will take care of the AA emplacements." Kal spoke as he typed a series of commands into a comm relay keypad. How about a little heavy artillery you frakkers? "Escort fighters, pull from formation and act as spotters for the artillery, they'll need you to be their eyes and ears."

Seconds later, the skies themselves shook as the Black Star and the other four ships in the strike force opened up with precision laser cannon bombardment. Turbolasers weren't necessary for this as the gun emplacements weren't hidden all that well, and the collateral damage would be too high.
Overkill in essence.

"Objective in 30 seconds, troopers stand by to deploy." This is it, Kal thought, the moment of justice. "What the frak...? Field Marshal, I think you'd better see this." Kal immediately ran to the cockpit, and as he did he saw what they did.
"That's an Imperial facility...a research station by the looks of it. Set her down pilot, this is our stop." Minutes later both Marine companies were on the ground and already setting up a perimeter, a makeshift camp, and defenses. The small collection of structures appeared as if they'd been abandoned for some time, vegetation and plant life had grown over much of it, the pure greys and whites of the standard Imperial color scheme were now faded and rusted over.

A great many things were running through the Field Marshal's mind at the moment; why is there an Imperial research station all the way out here on the rim? How did the Consortium know where it was? And what was this place used for? Questions dogged him, but he had no answers...and there was only one way to get them.

"All right Marines, saddle up, load your weapons, we're heading in." Kal in his full Mandalorian armor, and his Marines with full Katarn mk IV Commando armor, entered the main structure.
