I couldn't help but feel as though the speeder couldn't get me there in time. I knew she was alive, but I wanted to be there. I wanted to hold her, I wanted to check everything, to be sure. My reflexes were quicker than any human alive, and with my senses operating at thier maximum levels, it was a perfect match to the speeder's acceleration. The vehicle roared as it's engines were pushed to their peak, my hands pressing the controls fiercely to correct here and there.
"Davad! You don't want to die getting to her!" one of the Security men shouted, his face looked as cold and white as a Sol codfish. "For the love of -" The man hissed, but I didn't care. I knew my abilities, and I knew this was the fastest way to get to her. Through three lanes of speeder traffic, I cruised through and finally, I saw the street level to Sark had been reporting to Eve.
"Set it down over there!" the captain instructed, pointing to a mildly vacant position. For the first time since their rapid departure, I listened, guiding the vessel to the checkpoint the man had indicated. Opening the door, I ran towards my wife... taking every bit of her into my arms, as I kissed her.
"You all right?" My tone was soft, it was gentle and sincere. "I thought-" I wasn't sure how many times I've felt this way. This life-stopping essence that overcame me, when I thought I may have lost her.
"Ryan..." her eyes were stained with foreign blood, yet I listened carefully, "Nubis Serin is alive. And not only that, he's the leader of the Exchange." She whispered, and a flood of emotions overcame me. Rage, fear, and confusion were the primary, yet I couldn't help but set those aside. I took a medical cloth and caressed the side of her cheek where a minor cut existed, before leading her over to a medical speeder.
I could tell she was worried. She was worried about me, about the kids, and probably, Rebellion assets and personnel. I kissed her forehead, "Don't worry about this, not yet." I kissed her again, as she squeezed my hand.
"We need to talk to the Solos. We need to tell them."
I held her hand as the medical speeder's sirens blared the skywaves, as it took off into the emergency lanes and towards the nearest Rebellion Recovery Facility. "I'll send a message to the Chief of State." I said, a smile overtaking my face. They had been rather lucky with the day's events, and I couldn't help but feel a sigh of relief that the next challenge was facing a possible trial-begrudged Han Solo, versus a club of shooters.
But when looking at Arlyn, I couldn't tell which she would've rather faced... _________________ Ryan Davad
