Aegon straitened his usual overcoat, which hung low to his ankles over the uniform he’d so fondly grown to wear over the months that had past. His right hand straightened his rank insignia on his uniform jacket, while his left ran through his thinning hair. The Grand General took a deep breath and smiled; this moment was the one he’d worked for – after months of tedious organization, paperwork, and inspection, Strike Force Alpha was ready for deployment. Just outside of the small waiting room where he prepared himself was a crowd of Navy and Army officials, here to observe the christening of Targaryen’s own Army Strike Force. Reclipping his second code cylinder to his jacket, Aegon glanced out the transparisteel viewport upon the Executor Revelation, to serve as the flagship of his mighty assault fleet.

The muffled conversation from outside his preparatory room served as a quick reminder. Aegon straightened his posture, and then strode confidently out the set of doors onto a stage prepared for him. Before the stage was a somewhat large crowd, all officials and dignitaries, dressed well and taking great care to be extremely civil. The multitude gave a light applause for Targaryen before he took his place before the podium.

He quietly cleared his throat with a rumble, and began, “Good evening, ladies and gentlemen of the Empire and otherwise. I, as you may very well know, am Aegon Targaryen, Grand General to our Empire’s Army. We are gathered here, in essence, to celebrate a new beginning for not only the Imperial Army, but also a new time of judgment for enemies of the Galactic Empire. Fundamentally, that is what the designation Alpha symbolizes – the beginning, also displayed in the christening of my Executor flagship – the Revelation.”

“Strike Force Alpha and Strike Force Omega are, what I’d like to call, a perfect circle. Alpha is the beginning, the immense and unstoppably powerful blunt force of the Imperial Army to crush an enemy’s defenses. Omega is the end, the perfect and precise cutting edge of the Stormtrooper Corps, designed to decapitate an Enemy, to leave it leaderless and blind. Alpha to Omega, Beginning to End – it’s the ultimate in representations.” Aegon smiled broadly. “On that note, ladies and gentlemen, I give you – Strike Force Alpha!”

He motioned palm-up to the opposite side of the room, where two mammoth doors slid open, exposing a broad window. Applause rang through the room as the gathering gazed upon the spectacle of the vast fleet makeup of the new Strike Force. At the very tip of the formation was the flagship Executor, her guns firing a salute. Crossing his arms, Targaryen smiled even wider.

Socra stood as the Grand General finished his speech, assuming the podium after a smile and a friendly handshake with the man. He paused a moment as he looked over the assembled rabble of politicians and diplomats there to oversee the unveiling. Typical power-hungry sycophants and craven cowards that needed this more than the Empire did… but it kept them pacified, and kept their annoying commentary to themselves and not at the liaisons that had to deal with them all the time.

”Ladies and Gentlemen. This task force not only represents the full might and mastery of the Empire, but it also reflects our willingness to work to keep even the most outlying systems safe. If your people are ever assaulted or are in need of help, this task force will be at a moments notice, ready to bring the fist of the Empire down on all those that would blaspheme her people.

“I will be working with the Grand General and the Strike Force’s commander to provide nothing but the best in aerial support, to keep the young men and women from your planets, your countries, your cities and towns as safe as they can be as they defend our beloved homelands. You can count on us to provide the very best for you, and that we will never fail.”

An assembled cheer arose as Socra finished and left the podium. His face was a mask of tense politeness, but inwardly he was groaning… he hated playing the political games even more than he hated having his work overlooked, but at the same time it would save him and his office a lot of heartache in the long run. No, some discomfort now than overwhelming aggravation in the long run.
