I was asking CMAC how many credits it would take to create an ESD equivalent and I was charged with 1,000,000,000,000

One Trillion.

I believe research fees are a bit too high nor are they explained properly.

There has to be some check on sending in designs. Otherwise, it will just be a game of bigger and bigger ships with no penalties for sending ludicrously powerful designs. Moreso than what people said occured in VII, even.

Also, it's VASTLY unrealistic for someone with just 50,000 credits to be able to design, build prototypes for, conduct testing, and make final model of massive capital ships.

I agree completely, just not to the extent of a trillion.

People need to RP their creations far more.

Maybe RP successes and failures, idk...

Successes and failures come in the form of accepted designs and rejected ones. :p But both cost you money in real life.

[for the RL comment]That's exactly what I mean, but now that I think about it, it would be impossible for CMAC to regulate which designs had flaws that needed to be fixed, etc.

But a trillion for an ESD equivalent?

Is there a chart that you use that we can see... that would help all of us business owners immensely.

Would you know just how much R&D would cost you for something in real life? No. It frequently runs over or under budget. Even if there were a chart (it's calculated based on the design and construction and research abilities at the disposal of the sender), I doubt either Han or Cray would want it published.

Ams, what would it cost to research Shard-class' since it requires very little skill to make one?

Alex, it tries for realism... we do scale back the research, though. For example, the F-22 program cost billions in research and development, while we might price a fighter's R&D in the millions.

Is there any way you can create an example chart?

Except that while an F-22 is highly advanced as far as earth goes, starfighters, as long as they arn't too advanced, are common enough technology that you don't have to be a genious to figure them out. The Solo kids were able to fix a TIE in one of the EU books, and starships are to many of them what cars are to us.

Very few people design the mundane fighter. :p Those that do get a lower research cost, while most people wish to make the lastest, greatest, shining example of one-upmansship.

And I like designing caves that unicorns live in, but Ams won't give me a planet to do that :(
