Alatáriël Pallanén-Davad stepped out of her speeder, Isabel within her arms as the cold winds covered their bodies. Isabel stirred, discomforted by the coolness of the breeze. Arlyn opened her wings, shielding her child from the cold air. The Senate Guard emerged in an impressive display of arms and protection. She looked as they protruded into the circle, but her eyes scanned the sky.

"Was my husband given clearance to land?" she asked looking to the commander. The man bowed his head and ironically, the dark blue speeder emerged. Arlyn lowered her wings slightly to get a better glance at him as he made his approach.

He landed softly, then leaped out of the speeder and ran to his wife. Carefully moving Isabel aside, so that they could embrace each other after their short absence. They held the child, together, for a few moments staring into one of their ultimate creations.

It was time.

Ryan took the child from Arlyn's arms and gave her one last kiss, before they entered the Senate building.

Alatáriël Pallanén-Davad activated the hover pad as it detached and began to slowly make its way towards the center of the room. The Senators' whispers slowly died down and as the Security Chief moved into position to face the many representatives. Ryan sat in her pod, with Isabel in his arms, along with three of Arlyn's best advisors.

All eyes turned to the presiding body of this session, who happened to be the Speaker. Borsk Fey'la. It was him who would formally start the proceedings.

His eyes rolled over the scores of platforms, most of them empty, as the podium was raised. Fey’lya stood erect, stately in manner and dress, during this convening of the Senate. The plethora of species surrounding the Bothan each had their own prides and prejudices, only exemplified by their passivity or ferociousness in debate.

Vice Chair, Chief of Diplomacy and Speaker Borsk Fey’lya of Bothawui knew each and every trigger, soft point and every facet of those senators’ lives. He had made it his job to know how to speak not only eloquently, but catered to what the senators wanted to hear. He was a political animal – more like a political Death Star. Shrewdness and wording were the keys to government, and though Fey’lya, although selfless and good-intentioned, believed that he should be the Chief of State he recognized that Organa Solo was currently the piece that fit the mold. She sat aside of him, in the center of the podium.

Normally, Leia wasn’t here for the normal Senate sessions. She was always welcome to attend and the woman received the minutes of every meeting. However, the human had decided to arrive today to listen to several reports regarding the state of the Rebel Alliance. In silence, Borsk believed that she was here to investigate the absence of her husband, the Commander in Chief, from all Alliance space.

When the podium came to a close, the holocam placed on the far wall of the chamber focused on Fey’lya’s face. A holoscreen above the podium materialized, showing a clear picture of the podium seating area to all sides of the room.

“Order!” Borsk called out and waited until the senators ceased all communication. He noted that the Wookiees were always the most difficult to shut up. “I hereby call this meeting of the Senate of Alliance to Restore the Republic in session. Welcome to all Senators, from all races and cultures, to this important place of freedom,” The Bothan explained the traditional welcome as he kept his fur calm and straight with expert workmanship. “Now the chair will recognize the Chief of Security of the Alliance. She will be giving us a special report before we move on to matters of the state.”

As the Speaker of the Senate rose from his platform, the brunette Thanagarian felt something rumble in her stomach. She was nervous. Her eyes scanned the many different senators, but nothing surprised her more than the appearance of the Chief of State and she was pregnant with her third child. Arlyn examined the emotionless face of Leia as the podium continued to rise. What she must be going through.

Alatáriël Pallanén-Davad waited for Borsk to finish, when the light on her pod ignited, it was her turn to speak. She gently cleared her throat, attempting to get rid of the nerves, knowing the news she would give to the Galactic Senate, no to Leia, would not be comforting.

"Senators of the Alliance to Restore the Republic." she paused, listening to the sound of the hoverpod, "I am both happy and honored to be speaking here today." she took a moment to recall her speech, recollecting the night, and the time she put into it.“In this past year the free galaxy weighs one question above all others: how long will the subtle peace last?

“To weigh this chance is to call upon instantly a moment of great decision. It came with the combined force of all free factions against the evil tyrant known as Flint. Together we fought, bright with the promise of victory and of freedom. And when the Killik Confederacy surrendered, the hope of all just men and women in that moment too was a just and lasting peace.

“The years that has passed, since the Corellian Treaty of the Alliance and Empire, we have seen hope waver, grow dim, and almost die. And the shadow of fear again has darkly lengthened across the galaxy.

“Today the hope of freedom remains stubborn and brave, but it is sternly disciplined by experience. It shuns not only all crude counsel of despair but also the self-deceit of easy illusion. It weighs the chance for peace with sure, clear knowledge of what happened to the vain hope of the Corellia Incident.

“In that victory the soldiers of the Galactic Alliance met the soldiers of Galactic Empire. They were triumphant comrades in arms. All these war-weary peoples shared this concrete, decent purpose: to guard vigilantly against the domination ever again of any part of the galaxy by a single, unrestrained aggressive power.

“We have chosen paths for our own lives.” The thanagarian looked to the many senators but pressed forward in her speech, “The Galactic Alliance and our valued allies chose one road.

"The leaders of the Galactic Empire chose another.

"The way chosen by the Alliance to Restore the Republic was plainly marked by a few clear precepts, which govern its conduct in galactic affairs.

"First: No people can be held, as a people, to be an enemy, for all sentience shares the common hunger for peace, fellowship and justice.

"Second: No faction's security and well-being can be lastingly achieved in isolation but only in effective cooperation with fellow-factions.

"We have watched the Ssi-Ruuvi Imperium emerge, then disappear. As the hour of their coming approaches in five years, we shall greet our lost brothers with open arms. If they choose to emerge before hand, my fellow democratic senators, we must embrace them into our coalition. It is for the security for both of our humble governments.

"Third: Any planet's right to form a government and an economic system of its own choosing is indisputable.

"Fourth: Any government’s attempt to dictate to other planets and their form of government is exposed and vulnerable to our attacks..

"In the light of these principles the citizens of this Rebel Alliance defined the way they proposed to follow toward true peace, despite the upcoming precepts of war.

"This way was faithful to the spirit that inspired this grand and democratic senate: to prohibit strife, to relieve tensions, to banish fears. This way was to allow all planets and governments to devote their energies and resources to the great and good tasks of healing the war's wounds, of clothing and feeding and housing the needy, of perfecting a just political life, of enjoying the fruits of their own free labor. This was our cause.

"The Galactic Empire held a vastly different vision of the future.

"In the galaxy of its design, security was not to be found in mutual trust and mutual aid but in force: huge armies, subversion, rule of neighbor worlds and governments. The goal was power superiority at all costs. Security was to be sought by denying it to all others.

"The result has been tragic for the galaxy and, for the Galactic Empire, it has also been ironic.

"The amassing of the Imperial power alerted free worlds to a new danger of aggression. It compelled them in self-defense to spend unprecedented credits and energy for armaments. It forced them to develop weapons of war now capable of inflicting instant and terrible punishment upon any aggressor.

"It caused planets to rally and realizes it persists a threat to freedom, they must, at any cost, remain armed, strong, and ready for the risk of war.

"It inspired them, the humble worlds of this galaxy, to attain a unity of purpose and will beyond the power of propaganda or pressure to break, now or ever.

"There remained, however, one thing essentially unchanged and unaffected by Imperial conduct: the readiness of the free worlds to welcome sincerely any genuine evidence of peaceful purpose enabling all peoples again to resume their common quest of just peace.

"The free worlds, most solemnly and repeatedly, have assured the Galactic Empire that their firm association has never had any aggressive purpose whatsoever. Imperial leaders, however, have seemed to persuade themselves, or tried to persuade their people, otherwise.

"And so it has come to pass that the Galactic Empire itself has shared and suffered the very fears it has fostered in the rest of the world.

"This has been the way of life forged by a year of fear and force.

"What can the galaxy hope for if no turning is found on this dread road?

"The worst to be feared and the best to be expected can be simply stated.

"The worst is utter annihilation of entire worlds.

"The best would be this: a life of perpetual fear and tension; a burden of arms draining the wealth and the labor of all peoples; a wasting of strength that defies the Alliance system or the Imperial system or any system to achieve true abundance and happiness for the peoples of this galaxy.” Arlyn sighed, and recalled the security information regarding Han Solo.

"Senators. Friends. The Rebel Alliance has suffered greatly over this past year. Not of the loss of assets, but the loss of our Commander In Chief. He was more than our military leader, he was a friend, husband and a father." Arlyn quickly moved on, "Our efforts within Security have increased beyond imagine. My officers and agents are working overtime to locate this man, this lost hero. I can assure you, we will not fail to locate this man."

The Thanagarian Security Chief, shifting uncomfortably, began the security report for the entire Rebel Alliance. It only happened once a month, but she could tell some Senators were impatient while others were listening to every word. As she closed, Lucious's pod had detached and made its way towards the center of attention, waiting for Borsk to acknoweldge the new voice.

Arlyn collasped next to Ryan and the sleeping Isabel, waiting for the session to be over.

The Chief of State quietly sat through Pallanén’s long speech, waiting for the one report she knew must be upcoming. It was the thing most central to her being at this point in her life. Of course, she didn’t show it. She didn’t show it to her best friend, Winter, to her governmental allies or even to her own growing children. Leia Organa Solo needed to know where Han was. It wasn’t something that just was on the back of her mind – it was something that disrupted her entire life until she had an answer or at least some kind of acknowledgment of the issue.

She looked over at Borsk who had surprisingly been a help to her during this time. Naturally, she didn’t tell him either, but Leia could tell he knew it without exchanging any words. She had known him since the start of the Galactic Civil War. What he didn’t know was that Han had done this thing before, and that she had asked Alliance personnel to look for him.

But that was a different time. Leia had known who to ask, and Nevin Antilles knew that Han had been captured on Ord Mantell through Antilles’ own unwitting clairvoyance with the Force. It wasn’t the same way now. Things were clouded in the galaxy. She couldn’t make sense of, through her budding talent with the Force, anything that could lead them to Han. He had only been gone a week since his last report, but he should have contacted Denon at least fourteen times since his last comm call. If Leia, strong in the mystical art, could so much as feel her own partner in life, she was beginning to doubt if this was going to end well.

Anything left of Leia’s hopes were dashed when Pallanén reported that no leads had been found on Han’s disappearance. The only thing that she took comfort in was that she had not felt his death through the Force. Luke had always told her that one could sometimes sense the state of emotion and actions of those closest to him, and that the lack of that sense would ripple to that person like water inside a pipe. She hadn’t felt the ripples. If Han had been somehow isolated from the Force, she still would feel them. Leia felt only confusion.

As the Chief ended her report, Borsk stood and announced, “Thank you, Chief Pallanén. The Chair will now recognize Diplomat Lucious Victorinox.”

Leia rolled her eyes at the name. She had demoted the man three times, promoted him twice, then demoted him again in the past year. He always had something to say about everything and it was usually negative or insulting. She figured it would certainly be interesting.

Ma’shi shuddered at the name, why in the gods’ name was he still employed?
She sat uncomfortably in one of the guest booths near the middle of the senate, why she was there was anyone’s guess but she thought that it would be interesting to see how this government was gonna fail.
And then she saw how, Lucious Victorinox.
The smug politician stood in his booth and started talking in the same smarmy attitude that nearly got him killed a year ago. If he only knew how much effort it took for the Colonel to convince Gavin Young not to have him executed…
Ma’shi watched as Lucious prepared to make an ass of himself yet again.

Lucious Victorinox's pod zoomed to the center of the attention. He took a moment, after Borsk's acknowledgement, to zoom around the senate. He allowed each senator the privilege to look upon the now infamous Lucious Victorinox. Everyone wanted to hear what he said, even the bloody Imperials and low life faction members; like Stresseman (or whatever his name was). Everyone knew Nespis was as good as dead and their very existence was surprising. How could such a weak and dismal government survive for such a long period of time?

As Lucious waited for one more pass, his eyes scanned the guest arena. He knew it was infested with rats, but none better than Ma'shi herself. His lips curled at the ugly woman's site. She was a plague and rare disease among the Rebel Alliance and if those in the proper offices weren’t careful, she would be the undoing of the Alliance. If Lucious could have one thing given to him, it would be her entire existence wiped from the face of the galaxy. All she did was create the real problems.

Lucious, after getting a good look at the rat, began to speak. "Senators and the honorable Borsk and Organa Solo. It's my pleasure to speak in front of you today." his eyes noticed many eye rolls, "Let me remind you of who I am." He paused as if recollecting his life and values, "I am Lucious Victorinox the protector of democracy." a few chuckles erupted around the room, "Laugh as you may, but look at yourselves. Defeated. Disorganized.

"We are at war, Senators, with an evil beyond comprehension. The Galactic Empire sits at the throne of Coruscant amassing an invasion force, nothing this galaxy could fathom.

"Was it not I that voiced my distaste for the Empire? Was it not I that named Ams Jendob for what he truly was? A Supreme Fool? The Grand Fool waits behind his Super Star Destroyer attempting to breed a family of evil." A few laughs and scowls were heard, "You call me the traitor? You call me the fool. You call me a poor diplomat?! Was it not I that attempted to rally the galaxy against the Galactic Empire? Was it not I that foresaw their treachery?!"

Lucious opened his arms, "Brothers, sisters of this grand democracy! We can stand idle no longer! The Grand Fool sits, basking in a poorly constructed family with a demon wife, building his army and navy. He will flood our worlds with soldiers that would unnerve hell's greatest army."

Lucious had a point and made sure he was looking at Ma'shi when he said it, "Cast out the weaknesses and destroy them. Pity shall not haunt our souls as the war commences. Our soldiers’ fingers will not waiver at the site of an Imperial officer. They will kill the rapist, the molester of power and inflictions of agony.

“Peace is an option, but the Galactic Empire has denied us that! We have attempted to siege the diplomatic process and make it work, but we have failed completely. We have tried everything in our power, all of us have.

“Fate has destined our people to fight another Galactic Civil War.

“Let us show the galaxy, it will not end like Endor."

Some senators cheered, others quietly shook their heads. But they knew he was right. Peace had waivored, grew dim, then died. All that was left was trillions of credits and a seemingly endless line of war assets.

"How shall the Rebel Alliance to Restore the Republic defeat the Empire?" his smile beamed, "Follow the wisedom of Leia, the strength of Han Solo and the cunningness of Borsk! Lead your officers. Lead the way to victory."

Ma’shi glared as the real Grand Fool spoke his spiel. She knew all his comments about throwing out weaknesses were directed at her. She also noted that, while he managed to convince many of the senators, many more seemed unfazed by his somewhat stupid comments. He claimed that none of the soldiers would hesitate when they see an Imperial officer. If that Imperial officer was surrounded by a hundred or so Stormtroopers and that soldier was part of a small squad, he’d hesitate. He says force is the enemy and yet he also says that force is the way we should respond. Odd. Ma’shi made a mental note of all this and continued her musings, If he really wants to fight the Empire, I’ll give him a gun and drop him out the next troop transport I’m on. she thought, That way he’ll see that sneaking around and a little bit of deception is also needed.

Ryan Davad sat through Lucious's speech, the Senate still in sort of awe. They were taking in Victorinox's words and anaylzing them and apparently, so was Borsk as a long pause from the podium. The next speaker engaged the same center of attention as the rest, so did the others that followed.

Halfway during Yiin Barrs of the Senate Guard Committee's speech, Isabel stirred and wanted her late lunch. Arlyn also stirred from Ryan's shoulder reaching for the baby bag, however Ryan grabbed her hand and whispered, "I got it." She kissed his cheek then rested on shoulder again.

He took out the pre-made baby bottle and brought it to Isabel's mouth. After she had nearly finished the bottle, Isabel was patient and quiet the entire session, her little eyes looking around the massive building, particularly at Borsk every time he spoke. As the speaker ended the session, Arlyn whispered, "I would like to invite Leia to dinner." Ryan nodded and responded, "I'll prep the speeder with Isabel...maybe she can drive."

The thanagarian mother smirked, "Not for another 17 years..."Arlyn watching the podium descend back into the Chief of State's office, kissed both Ryan and Isabel on the cheek then used her wings to drop to the lower levels, then walking swiftly to catch her at one of the doors. Ryan watched her disappear then collected the baby bag and left towards the outer parking district while holding the little child in his arms.

Arlyn made her way towards the Chief of State's office, being saluted by many of the senate guards present. She stopped to say hello to several of the TLOG senators, apparently they had missed their 'Lady of Geonosis' and bid her a congrats on the children. After a few minutes, Leia Organa-Solo had emerged from the Chief of State's room, releasing Arlyn from their never-ending questions. She promised to contact each of them at a later time, then greeted the fellow brunette.

Although Leia tried her best to cover the pain, Arlyn could sense that Han's disappearance was greatly troubling her. It was a sign of true love, but the thing that bothered Arlyn the most, was the rumored terms he disappeared on. Had they solved things, or was Leia in a sense of regret and depression? Arlyn smiled kindly, hoping her energy and happiness could somehow be fused into her superior.

"Chief Organa-" she started with formalities then kindly changed, "Leia." Hoping she wasn't out of place she extended an invitation, "My family and I would like to invite you and the kids over to my parent's house. I can relate to what you are going through, but you should know he's a lot stronger than many of us. He'll turn up eventually, he loves you too much to not return in one piece." she attempted to joke, but failed miserably. "I understand if you don't, but it would mean a lot for my parents...and myself if you came."

Arlyn's right. This thread isn't meant for commentary. If you have something to say, take it to PM, MSN or the thread in Off-Topic. This isn't the place for it. All OOC comments will be removed in 30 min.

Ryan Davad looked as Arlyn emerged, alone. His eyes scanned for any sign of the Chief of State, but to no avail. Arlyn opened the blue speeder door and took the passenger seat. Ryan looked at her, lowering his sunglasses for a moment. "What happened?"

Arlyn washed away her face and beamed, "She is going to get the kids. She'll meet us there."

Ryan nodded with a smirk, then accelerated towards his in-law's house. As they were cruising the skies, he asked, "Did you tell her Lucious was coming?" Arlyn shook her head. Ah, this was going to be interesting...
